Oldest Jewelry Store Serving WlUlip By JEAN L. RIVERS A week ago Thursday, Gary Dalton . . . senior at the Uni versity of North Carolina, came for a visit with us and on Fri day morning I took him on a tour of Blowing Rock. Present plans call for his working full time on the Democrat's Blow ing Rock section this summer. Our first stop was at Chamber of Commerce for a chat with the secretary, Betty Custer, and Mrs Nettie Greene. Betty was wondering where in the world we will put all the tourists this summer . . . week end in parti cular. Chatted briefly with Howard Holshouser, Lloyd Rob bins, Betty and Hayden Pitts and with Mrs. Broyhlll out at the Rock Gift Shop, where we found some delicious home made mints. We came back by Blowing Rock Hospital to see the administrator, Mr. Wegar, who showed us the new wing of the hospital. I was delighted to see they have provided a sofa in most of the new rooms so a member of the family can stay overnight. And, this i is offered at no extra cost. This is something I feel strongly about and I am glad they are providing this service. Getting bsck to the quick tour . . . oth er people we tried to see were the Mayor and Mrs. Bob Hardin, Irene Coffey, Howard Bam well, Harry and Grover Robbins, Ellen Coffey, Mr. Eli Mataar and others. Went by the golf course,. Blowing Rock Country Club and Tweetsie, where work men were getting ready for the season. In a flash everything will be in high gear over there . . . and I am real excited ibout it. This will be our biggest sea son of all time! Stanley and Mary Harris have started building an apart ment house on Queen Street and we are mighty happy they have come to our end of town. The Sturdivants of North Wil kesboro are their partners in this venture. Estel Wagner and Cecil Miller have their apart ment house, between the Cath olic Church and Blowing Rock road, well under way. Also hear another one will be built on Oak or Pine Street in the near future . . . can't tell you much about this one yet. Carl and Marbeth Fidler are building a tourist court almost adjoining their home, and the Dwight Ed miltens are enlarging theirs. Looks as if we will have plenly of room here this summer. I went to the dessert-bridge at Margaret Council's Thursday afternoon. Dolly Matheton was co-hotfteas and they had a real pretty party. They had made tallies in the shape of little hats in pastel shades of taffeta and small white doilies. My description doesnt do them justice, so I'll keep mine and show it to you when you come home. I saw ever so many peo ple at the party thai I hadn't seen for ages and enioyed every minute of it. Ellen Payne got high score, Margaret Coffey second high and Rena Godwin bingo. Your daddy and I had to go to Charlotte on business Friday and it was a beautiful drive. The azaleas, dogwood, japonica, .iris, tulips, pansies and many other early spring flowers and shrubs were In full bloom. Trees are half way to their peak and I loved every minute of it. Beautiful is the word for this time of year! I fully expect to see unusual window decorations in the large department stores during Christmas and other holidays, .but was delightfully surprised to see one of Belk's win dows full of white bunny rabbits having a lawn party. I'm sure this was intended mainly for children, but I had a ball and more chuckles than I have had in many weeks. The mama rabbit * (mechanically) was feeding her baby with a spoon, one big fat bunny was fast asleep (bis tummy breath ing life-like) on a low lounge, a family of four were eating at a picnic table and two were doing the twist to appropriate music. Wish I could have stayed long er. Retha Wilson told me Satur day that her husband is ill with a virus. I'm real sorry and hope he is well soon. Had hoped that this sort of thing was over for this season. Saw Horton and Eileen Gragg a few minutes Saturday after noon. Eileen and their sons, Horton, Jr. and Nicky, are now living in the Gragg home here and Horton, who will retire from the Air Force in Novem ber, comes up from Fort Bragg evary week end. It was good to see them and we are glad they " Everybody Likes Boone, N. C " And Most Everybody Likes the MOVIES APPALACHIAN THEATRE Telephonp ?
