meeting Monday night, May 20, ,
at the Daniel Boone Inn. (
Faust had surveyed the com
munity playground and the re
creational facilities of Boone
earlier in the day
He commended the citizens of
Boone on the progress that had
been made on the playground
and made suggestions on how
the playground and recreation
in Boone could be improved.

The annual All-Sports ban
quet of Appalachian State
Teachers College was held Sat
urday night in the college cafe
teria. Aboat 250 people attend
ed.
Athletes in all the sports were
honored individually by the var
ious coaches. The sports includ
ed football, soccer, wrestling,
basketball, tennis, golf, track,
and baseball.

and ? member of the Motmtain View Bar Bell Club, lifted his
way to the farheel 165-division championship Saturday. His
total for the meet was 750 pounds.
Boone Barbell Club Takes
Two State Championships

lifted their way to state cham
pions in the annual "Mr. Tar
heel and Most Muscular Man in
North Carolina" contest Satur
day. The state-wide contest was
held in Winston-Salem at the
YMCA.
Phil Minor, in the 123 pound
division, and Bill Broyhill, in
the 148 pound division, both of
the local club, won second-place
honors in the meet. Kenny
Moore, of the same club, also
lifted.
Roten, a junior at Appalach
ian High School, won the first
place position in the 169 pound
class by pressing 230 pounds,
snatching 2tO pounds, and clean
and jerking 300 pounds, for ?
final total ot 750 pounds.
Cooper, a freshman at Appa
lachian State Teachers College,
took the 181 honors with a final
total of 780 pounds.
Minor is a sophomore at Ap
palachian High School and is the
smallest boy in the local club.
Broyhill is from Lenoir and has
been lifting with the club since
its beginning in 1960. He lift
ed the same total as the first
place winner, but placed second
because he weighed slightly
more than the winner.
Although no trophy was off
ered to the team for points, the
Mountain View club had the
highest total, 16 points, of any
group participating.
