... Chas. Horton Dies In Wilkes North Wilkesboro ? Charles Gentry Horton, 78, of 611 F Street, North Wilkesboro, died at seven p. m. Wednesday in Wilkes General Hospital. He had been in declining health several months and was aarkma ly ill ten days. Mr. Horton spent most of his youth in Boone, where the fam ily resided for a great many yenrs. % He was born in Ash? County August 12, 1884, son of Nathan iel and DeEtta Councill Hor ton. For several years he was a member of the police force in North Wilkesboro, retiring in 1M8. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minnie Haire Horton of the hmne, aon, Dwight Horton of Rutherford ton; daughter, Mrs. DM Melville of North Wilkea boro; four grandchildren; a slater, Mrs. Mattie Hallman of Winaton-Salem. Funeral service was conduct ed at two p. m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro by the Rev. K. F. Smith Jr., pastor. Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Andy Greer Rites Held H. Andy Greer, age 80, died June 8, in Greensboro at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home. He was born in Watauga County to William Franklin and Martha Isaacs Greer. The funeral was conducted June 7 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Barney Oliver and Bev. Roby Eggers officiating. Burial was in the Union Ceme tery. Surviving are three brothers, Filmore Greer and Cicero Greer of Zionville and John Greer Of Boone; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Isaacs and Mrs. Eli za G. Thomas of Zionville. Mee kins Home Is Damaged In Friday Flames The J. C. Meekins house oil Cherry Drive was damaged by fire and smoke in an early morning fire Friday, according to Volunteer Fire Department chief R. D. Hodges. The blaze was detected at 12:55 a. m? Hodges said. Host of the damage was at tributed to the heavy smoke which engulfed the home. Hod ges called it "the worst smoke damage I've seen in years." An insurance agency in Boone estimated the damage as being around $2,900.
