Sfl & M n UGA democrat Section C BOONE, WATAUGA COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, THURSDAY, JUNE *0, IMS PRICE TEN CENTS Senior Citizens Have Good Time; Day Spent At Tweetsie What b so rare u a day in June! William Shakespeare never found anything finer but then he never lived ia Watauga County nor did he ever visit Tweetaie Land. The Senior Citizens of Boone and Blowing Bock found that spending ' the day in Tweetaie Load made even a perfect day ia June more than perfect For the more than forty peo ple who attended, it was indeed a memorable occasion.. They be gan to assemble at about eleven o'clock and soon after they were all aboard Tweetaie Train for the famous trip around the mountain. The swing and sway of the little old cart; the chug chug of the engine and every toot of the Tweetaie whistle brought back memories of their yesterdays when this self-same Tweetaie Bailroad was Wa tauga County's principal life line, the moat important con necting link with the outaide world. At noon there was lunch in the Tweetaie Palace and for good measure they enjoyed the unuaual Palace Floor Show. Next came the climb up the bean stalk to the Castle in the Land of the Sky to see the Sleeping Giant. Some made this trip by bus, but a surprising number rode the Sky-Lift. Ev eryone waa impressed with the view from the Castle and awed by the aspect of the Sleeping Giant, whose slumbers they were careful not to disturb. As the happy group turned homeward it was interesting to hear their varied remarki about this pleasant outing. One eld erly gentleman frankly admit ted that he had never in hia whole life enjoyed a day more. A grandmother expressed ap preciation that there was some one who was interested enough in the older people to plan such an Interesting outing. "For," she added, "we have little enough social contacts and the regular meeting of this group gives us aw? thing to Ml for ward to." . ? Special thanks go to Mm. B. H.
