Society V Madron-Kicliter Engagement Told MISS MARY CAROLYN MADRON Mrs. Paul Eve Madron an nounces the engagement of her daughter, Miss Mary Carolyn Madron to Harry James Kicli ter, Jr., son of former Senator and Mrs. Harry James Kicliter of Ft. Pierce, Florida. Miss Madron is a graduate of Vero Beach High School. She attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn. and Indian River College, Ft. Pierce, Fla., and is presently employed at the Indian River Citrus Bank in Vero Beach, Florida. Mr. Kicliter is a graduate of Dan McCarty High School in Fort Pierce, Florida and attend ed Indian River College and at present is serving with the U. S. Army, stationed at Ft. Lae, Va. JIMMY BLEDSOE Miss Barbara Helen Smith be came the bride of Jimmy Bled soe, Saturday, June 15, at 4 p. m. in the Deerfield Methodist Church. The Reverend Joseph C. McMurry preformed the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Smith of Boone. She is a graduate of Ap palachian High School and is employed at the International Resistance Co. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bledsoe of Fleetwood. He is a graduate of Beaver Creek High School and is presently employed with Blackburn's Construction in West Jefferson. Mrs. J. C. Boone, pianist, presented a program of wed ding music. Mr. Red Lyons, soloist, sang "The Lord's Pray er." The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a waltz length gorwn of white silk or ganza over taffeta. Her fitted bodice featured a scooped neckline with three-quarter length sleeves. The controlled front panel of the boufiant skirt and front of waist was appliqued with Venise lace. The back was finished with an or ganza bow at the waist. Her shoulder length veil of silk illusion fell from a lace covered pillbox. She carried a cascade bouquet of white daisy chry sanythmums and boker fern. Mrs. John Turner, sister of the bride was matron of honor. She wore a pink street length dress with an embroidered over skirt. Mr. Jack Bledsoe, brother of tbe groom, was best man. Ushers were Ronnie J. Smith, brother of the bride and John Bledsoe, brother of the groom. The bride's mother wore a (heath drey? of pale blue and white fmhrairfury, irlth white accessories. The groom'i mother wore a sheath dress of royal blue jersey with matching ai cessories. Both mothers and the brides grandmother of Perth Am boy, New Jersey, wore corsages of white carnations. A reception was held after the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents. The wed ding cake, punch, mints and nuts "ere served by Mr*. Har vey Ayers and Mrs. John Turn er. Assisting were Miss Brenda Hennessee, Mrs. James Hen nesee and Mrs. Steve Gabriel. For travel the bride choce a white linen suit with yellow and white accessories and wore a corsage of yellow daisies. After a wedidng trip south, the couple will live in Boone. University Women Meet The Boone Branch of the American Association of Uni versity women met at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday, June 18, in the Methodist Church. Ten mem bers were present. Mrs. David Hodgin, .branch president, pre sided. Mrs. Hodgin welcomed and introduced the following guests: Eucyle W. Spaulding, Ft. Laud erdale, Fla.; Madeline Worth, Hollywood, Fla.; Mrs. Martha Meek, Miami Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Lee Porter, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Mrs. Charles C. Miller, Miami, Fla. Mrs. John Welborn was in charge of the program. She spoke on the topic "Can the United Nations Become a World Power?" A social hour followed the meeting. Hostesses Mrs. John Welborn, Mrs. Mary Evans Den ton, and Mrs. David Hodgin served delicious refreshment*. Gardenerettes Garden Club The Gardenerettes Garden Club held their regular month ly meeting June 20th at the home of Mra. Walton Cole on Woodland Drive. Mra. Jimmy Winkler called the meeting to order and welcomed two new members, Mr*. Paul Sanders and Mrs. Sam Dixon. During the business meeting final plans were re'de for de corating two windows for the Tercentenary celebration. The club plans to plaee a collection of old clocks and watches in Walkers Jewelry Store and 9 collection of old stamps and letters in the window at Coe Insurance ahd Realty. Club participation for the dedication tea of the Daniel Boone Botanical Gardens to be held June 29th, was discussed and organised. Each member was given a time to be hostess during the dedication. Following the committee re ports, a workshop was held on making corsages. The new members were given a corsage to wear home. The hostess serv ed refreshments and the meet ing was adjourned. Rhododendron Garden Club Ilia patio at the home of Mrs. W. L. High was the scene of the June meeting of the Rhododen dron Garden Club. It was in the form of a picnic with each member brining his own lunch. Th? hostess served a aalad and - Jm. A. The group was glad to have Mrs. Robert Codjr as a guest. Fine Arte Group Is Entertained The Fine Arts Department of the Worthwhile Woman's Club held its June meeting on Thurs day evening, June 20th with Mrs. E. M. Luttrell at her home in Shulls Mills, Mrs. E. L. Ray was associate hostess. The new chairman, Mrs. E. S. Quails, recognised the guests, Mrs. C. E. Yount of Eau Gallie, Florida and Miss Jane Wilson, a student at Appalachian State Teachers Collage, whose home is in Shelby. Mrs. Guy Good man, from Sarasota, Fla., was welcomed back for the sum mer. Mrs. KM Payne's name was added for membership in this department. Mrs. E. L. Ray and Dr. Ella Hardin gave reports on plans (or decoration of Hunt's and Church's store windows for the Tercentenary celebration on June 28th. Kn Quail* urged members to cooperate with the Tercen tenary Charter committee and furnish food tor the picnic on the 29th. Members were asked to wear colonial castumes dur ing the celebration. Program chairman, Mrs. E. L. Ray, presented Miss Jane Wilson in a vocal program, and she played her own accompani ment. After the program the hos tesses served a strawberry des sert course with coffee. Luncheon Given Wedding Parly Mrs. Spencer Greene gave a luncheon at 1 p. m. Miss Rosemary Shuler Baasett Ayres became the bride of Mr. Jacob Loftin Mock, Jr., at '3 p. m., Saturday, June 22, in the Boone Methodist Church. Dr. John Glenn Barden of Appalachian State Teachers College, assisted by his son, Reverend Lawrence E. Barden of the North Carolina Methodiat Conference, performed the double ring ceremony. The bride, daughter of Mrs. Henry Clay Ayres of Poplar Hill Drive, Boone, and the late Reverend H. C. Ayres, is a gra duate of Franklin County High School, Rocky Mount, Virginia, and attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The bridegroom, son of Mrs. S. Howard Monroe of Laurin burg, and of the late Mr. J. L. Mock, Sr., is a graduate of Laurinburg High School and is presently a junior at the Uni versity of North Carolina. A program of wedding music was rendered by Mrs. John Glenn Barden at the organ, and by soloists as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Greer of Boone and Mr. Robert Kennedy of Charlottesville, Virginia. Vocal selections presented were "O Promise Me," "Ruth's Song to Naomi," and "Til Walk Beside You." Given in marriage by her couiin, Mr. Guy D. Adams of King* tree, South Carolina, the bride wore a floor length gown of silk organza which featured a detachable Chapel train and a bolero jacket of re-embroider ed Alencon lace. The jacket waa fastened down the back with tiny buttona and wash ftyled with a high neckline and scal loped three - quarter length sleeves. The bride's face was { framed with a finger-tip, hand- , clipped, Chantilly' lace mantilla. The bridal bouquet was a uni- , qt ' arrangement of Fuji chry santhemums with a tracery of green, and ribbon festoons. \ Miss Barbara McKenzie of Gibson, North Carolina, was maid of honor. Senior bridea maids were Hiss Pattle Hols claw of Ferrum, Virginia; Miss Priscilla Lord (daughter of the bride's god-parents) of Rich mond, Virginia; Miss Elizabeth j Greer, Boone; and Miss Anne Harris, Arlington, Virginia. Jun ior bridesmaids were Miss Sherryl Shuler (cousin of the bride), Kingstree, South Caro lina, and Miss Patsy Tucker (cousin of the groom) of Laur inburg. The honor attendant and other bridesmaids wore identical dresses of blue or ganza and taffeta with match ing headpieces and carried bou quets of daisy pompoms com bined with blue baby's breath. Little Karen Shuler, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Woodfin N. Shuler of Seaford, Delaware, and cousin of the bride was the flower girl. Her dress was of baby blue organza topped by a white, lace ruffled pinafore, and the flower basket she carried contained an arrangement simi lar to the bouquets , of the bridesmaids. Master John Charles Flagler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Flagler of Kingstree, South Carolina, was the ring bearer and wore a white Jacket with blue trousers. Mr. Mock's best man was his step-father Mr. S. Howard Mon roe of Laurinburg. The groomsmen were Messrs. Jimmy Dalryple, Wallace Man gum, Robert L. Ormsby, Jr., and Mr. Jimmy Monroe (half-broth er of the groom), all of Laurin burg; Mr. Howard Dennis of High Point, and Mr. Malcolm Duane Shuler (cousin of the bride) of Kingstree t. South Carolina. Miss Vela Smith of the Ex tension Department of Clemson College, and Mrs. Guy D. Adams, were co-directors of the rehearsal and procession. Immediately after the cere mony ? reception was given in the parlors of the Boone Metho dist Church by the bride's aunt, Mrs. Johnson Heyward Nexsen, formerly of Kingstree, South Carolina, and now of Boone. Mrs. Ann Flagler Smith of Kingstree, South Carolina, kept the bride's register. The bride's mother was at tired in a dress of blue lace; the groom's mother wore rose. Their corsages were fashioned of orchids. For traveling the bride chose a two-piece dress of white and yellow crepe with yellow acces sories and a yellow orchid cor sage. Brushy Fork Home Club The Brushy Fork Home De monstration Club met with Mrs. Ted Greene on Thursday, June 20. In the absence of the presi dent, the meeting was called to order by Mrs. Ivalee Dancey. Mrs. Reatha Wilson read the 3rd chapter of James for devo tion, and Mrs. Alma Phillips led the prkyer. The club col lect was repeated by all. The minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
