Crthtat lure been better if it led been made to order. Thank iron for taking us to your love ly Pan-O-Rama Club Saturday night, and for gettisg up ao early Sunday morning to fix us the delicious and bountiful breakfast. Your daddy, Rachel and I thoroughly enjoyed it The trip home took 7 hours . . . just a* all of us knew it would. We were in ? severe rain storm from Knoxville to Johnson City and had to drive at a snail's pace. Still took 7 hours . . . same as on a sunny day when one can drive as fast as the law allows. Wish some one would explain that to me. Anyway, we arrived home at . . . had time to unpack, even mall, read the papers and 0et loads d rest before com ing to work this morning. Nothing of great consequ ence happened while we .were gone except that the Democra tic Executive Committee met Saturday afternoon and elected Jack Edmisten on the Board of Elections to replace Archie Daneey, who resigned recently. I was real sorry not to be there in person. However, my proxy was, and that was just as good. We have just finished eating s delicious mango that Mrs. Robert Gutkin of Miami, Fla. brought us recently. Are you familiar with this delicacy? It seems to be a cross between a cantalope and an orange and we were so happy to have an other. (The Stanley Harrises brought us one a few years ago.) Mrs. Gutkin is the daugh ter of Mr .and Mrs. Roy Eg gers of Bristol Road, and they have a summer home between Boone and Blowing Rock. We appreciate her thoughtfulness. A few days ago I had the pleasure of chatting with Mr. R. F. Greene, who is improving from a serious illness. He was brought home from his Florida vacation and put in the Cannon Memorial Hospital in Banner Elk, where he was a patient a whole month. He is able to be out now and It is mighty good to see him going about hij busi ness as usual. Mr. Greene had high praise for the hospital arid their ten doctors. The hospital is practically new and this very minute they need a new 50 bed wing in addition to the 100 bed* they already have. Isn't that amazing? HI never forget his kindness to me while I was SI at the Baptist Hospital is Win ston-Salem in 1907. Jack wss interning at that time and he visited with me twice a day for almost two weeks. This was and always will be greatly appreci ated, and I wish him every hap piness. Because of conflicts I have bad to miss ever so many nice functions recently . . . among them being the birthday party for Mrs. C. S. Kipp at Blowing Rock Country Club, which I hear was a huge and mighty enjoyable party, and the one for Pat Dowling Friday morn ing. This was given by Bea Hendrix, Lala Hardin and Lucy Farthing at the Hendrix home. I know I missed an ex ceptionally nice party . . . and in addition to that I regret not being able to spend some time in the Hendrix home, one of the prettiest places in this town. Bea's antiques are beau tiful. Wish you could see them some time. Had to work last week and for that reason didn't get to have a long visit with our Boone neighbors. John and Johnny were the only ones Who came from Darien, Conn., where they are living unti! they can move into a new house they are planning to buy. The Wal ter Boones left Wednesday, but Charlie, Betty and Mary stayed and also had a visit with their Cove Creek and Valle Crucis relatives. Hope to see more of them next time they are up. Also wanted to spend some time with my cousins, Louise Johnson Hagaman of Norfolk, Va. and Ruby Johnson Hill of Lansing, Mich. They were visit ing here with their families and it was good to see them even for a short time. Have so much to do today ... so must get at it Thanks again for a wonderful week end.
