The very first thiag I want to tell you is that our wonder ful neighbor, Mrs. Boone, had surgery at Duke Hospital m Durham Friday, and is ge'ting along real well. She had gone home the Sunday before with Betty and Charlie Boone for a visit . . . and from there had planned to go to visit Br*d and Becky (Boone) Hardiu ;n El Paso, Texas. Now, of course, that is out and I'm real sorry things had to be this way, hut ever so thankful Mrs. B. in all right. It's lonely en our hill when she is gone, and we will be looking forward to her re turn in a few weeks. Another neighbor, Mr. Mack Luttrell, had eye surgery at McKee Hospital in Johnson City, Tenn. last week. He had the same operation on his oth er eye a short time ago, and I hear he hasnt been getting along as well this time. We are anxious to have him back home much improved in the near fu ture. Had a short visit Friday with an old friend, Louise DuPre, who was visiting her mother, Mrs. M. P. Critcher. Louise had a short stay at the hospital while here, but is much better now. In fact, she returned Sun day with her husband and son John Paul to their home in Wilmington. It was good to see Louise and I hope sfle will be good as new very soon. Your daddy and I were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Dimmette at a wonderful din ner party at Mayview Manor Thursday evening. Mr. Dim mette grew the glads used to decorate the tables, and you never saw such vivid colors. They were perfectly lovely and beautifully arranged, too. Met some new people and saw a lot of old friends there. It was a good kind of party and I en joyed every single minute of it. Jewell Mast took Kat Hodges, Rosemond McConnell and me to Abingdon, Va. Saturday. First we went to the Martha Washington Inn, where we olayed bridge until time for lunch . . . and following lunch we went to the Barter Theatre to see Period of Adjustment. I was pleasantly surprised Sunday altemon when brother Ernie and Janice Lewis brought their guest, Mr William James of Richmond, Va. for a visit. Mr. James Is such an interest ing person, and since I thoroughly enjoy hearing Britishers talk ... it '.as ? real Joy to listen to him. He is slao a very lucky person . . i? that his father came to this country from Wales in the early nineteen hundreds, and when the proper time came he booked pasage for his wife and three sons on the Titanic. Be cause of illness of one of the children they took a later ship. The story made cold chills run in all directions. The James family are also old friends of the Carl Days, whom he also visited. Do hope he won't wait another seven years before re turning to Boone. Margaret and John York are the proud parents of John, Jr. born in Morganton last Thurs day He weighed # lbs. 5H on. As you know, Margaret worked with us several months and we miss seeing them around. So glad they have the little one. Thelma (Mrs. James) Hor ton, a fromer resident of Cove Creek and Boone, who has been living in Kansas City, Mo. sev eral years, came by for a brief visit this (Monday) morning. It had been a lot of years since I had seen Thelma and she has changed very little. In fact, she is looking great. So glad she could come by. And, happy news came this morning from Lores O'Daniel in Charlotte. She and Mr. Olin Parks Hutchinson, Jr. were married in the Methodist Par sonage in York, S. C. on June 19. Loree lived here ever so many years while she was with Spainhour's store. They are liv ing at 2421 Kenmore Ave. in Charlotte ... and I hope great happiness is in store for them. Dr J. B. and Barbara Haga man have started a new house which I will keep you posted on. Also, the Kenneth Wilcoxes have started one on Edgewood Drive ... and I understand they will be neighbors.
