New Faculty Members Are Named At ASTC DR. JOHN W. HAMILTON Dr. John Ward Hamilton, as sociate professor at Auburn Un iversity, has joined the faculty of Appalachian State Teachers College as associate professor of Spanish. The new faculty member is a graduate of the University of Florida and the University de Salamanca (Spain). He has done addiitonal work at the Un iversity of Chile, New York Un iversity and the University of Madrid. Dr. Hamilton is married and the father of one teen-ager. JAMES M. COLE James M. Cole, Alamance County Band Director and Co ordinator of Music, has joined the faculty at Appalachian State Teachers College as assistant professor of education. The new faculty member is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with the B.S. and M.Ed, degrees. He is doing ad ditional graduate work at the University of North Carolina. A Methodist, Mr. Cole is mar ried and the father of seven children. DR. WILLIAM T. NICHOLS Dr. William T. Nichols of Lakeland, Fla., has joined the faculty at Appalachian State Teachers College as assistant professor of political science. Dr. Nichols is a graduate of the University of Virginia with the B.A and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Nichols is married and the father of five children. The Lionel Ward (Continued from page one) line Harmon Ward, he was first married to the late Miss Birdie Ann Mast. The couple had three children, Mrs. W. S. Ellis of Athens, Ga., John Ed ward and Jack Edgar of Boone; and three grandchildren. After the death of his first wife some years ago, Ward married the former Mrs. Hollie Adams of Boone, mother of two sons, Zeb Adams of Sunny vale, California, and Melvin Adams of Baker, Oregon. Mr. Ward fanned from the time he quit school until he joined the army in X91T. Be served in Belgium and France during the first World War and also served in the army of occupation. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, and was secretary of the Adult Men's Sunday School class five years. He was a Mason. He was supervisor of roads two years. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p. m. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Dr. J. C. Canipe and Rev. W. E. Polk officiating. Burial was at Hines Cemetery. In addition to his two sons and daughter, three grandchil dren, his second wife, and two step-sons, Ward is survived by a brother, Sam Ward of Beech Creek.
