"Fiashettcs" To Appear At Saturday Football The "Flashettea," of Hamptonville, will provide halfUme entertainment at the Appalachian-Newberry football game Saturday night. they are: Jennie Holmes, mascot; Dorinda Moreti, Jo Bell, Phyllis Holcom , Christine Long, Johnette Edwards, Sharon Boles, Ann Wellborn, and Nan Bell, director of the group. Not pictured are Kay Pinnix, and Eleanor Gough. Four high school bands will provide a pre-game musical show before the Appalachian Newberry football game in Wil liam J. Conrad Stadium next Saturday night. In addition, the Appalachian State Teachers College marching band will provide the halftime show, along with the "Flashettes," a group from Hamptonville. The four bands providing entertaniment beginning at 7 p. m. are the Glen Alpine High School Band, Elkin High School Band, Charles D. Owen High School Band (Swannanoa), and the Hudson High School Band. The pre-game show has been arranged by Charles Isley, di rector of the Mountaineer Band. If the activities prove popular, Mr. Isley plans to have visiting high school bands for pre-game entertainment prior to all home games. L Phillips Dies At 83 Grandille L. Phillips, ace 83, of Route 1, Boone died Sunday nifht at his- heme after an ex tended illness. He was a farmer and life lon< resident of the county. He waa the son of the late Hiram and Elian Parsons Phillips. Funeral services were con ducted Wednesday (today) at 2 p. m. at Pilot Mountain Bapt ist Church by Rev. Fred Van noy, Rev. Pete Vannoy and Rev. Roscoe Morrow. Interment was in the Phillips cemetery. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Sarah Parsons Phillips; one daughter, Mrs. Marion L.
