Counselor
To Visit
Students
Mrs. Jone* if ? widow with
two teen-age sons, and a daugh
ter in college. When her hus
band died quite suddenly, she
found K necessary to go to work
to support her family and in
sure the future education of
her children.
Her daughter is doing well
in college and brings Mrs. Jones
no end of satisfaction and pride,
but her sons cause her to wor
ry a great deal. They stay out
until all hours of the night and
are vague in their reports of
what they are doing. Their
grades are poor, and they show
no interest in constructive ex
tra-curriculor activities offered
by the high school.
Because Mrs. Jones works,
she only sees them at supper
time for any length of time dur
ing an average week day. Her
natural worry about their phy
sical well-being and their emo
tional and spiritual growth is
really getting her down.
Mrs. Jones needs a sympa
thetic ear, and this will be sup
plied when Or. and Mrs. David
Mace arrive in Watauga Coun
ty on October 21-23. Though
Mrs. Jones is fictitious, her
problem is not, and she needs
the advice of a trained couns
elor to help her.
Dr. Mace is currently execu
tive director of the American
Association of Marriage Coun
selors, and is widely read and
heard as a foremost authority
in the field of family relations.
While in our county all high
school students will be given
the opportunity to hear him,
and special addresses to parents
and interested adults will be
arranged. The entire Family
Life Conference is sponsored by
a special committee of which
the Rev. Boyce Broows, minister
of the First Baptist Church of
Boone, is chairman.
The man who is always up
with his work must have very
little else to do.
