Polio Is Declining
Throughout U. S.
The lut United States Public
Health Service report released
November 1, gives most happy
figure* for the tremendous de
crease in the number of cases
of polio occurring in the entire
United States this year, includ
ing of course Alaska and Ha
waii, compared with the past
history of this disease, Dr. Mary
Michal, local health director,
said.
So far this year 362 cases
have been reported, 301 of
them paralytic, well t'nder one
half the number of cases re
ported lut year. In North Car
olina, 10 cases, 8 of them par
alytic, so far this year, com
pared with figures for other
years for this same first 43
