Miller, 65, of Route 2, Boone, died Tuesday at his home. He was born in Watauga Coun ty to Wiley and Laura Triplett Miller and was a retired shoe repairman. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Clara Cook Miller; seven sons, Howard Miller of Winston Salem, Page, Bruce, Keith and David Miller of Boone, Bailey Miller of Lenoir and Sam Mil ler of Kerkland, Ohio; a step son, Bob Cook of Charlotte; five daughters, Mrs. Louise Williams erf Kerkland, Ohio; Mrs. Hava Brewer of Lenoir, Mrs. Freda Bryan and Mrs. Belva Taylor erf Boone and Miss Jean Miller of the home; three brothers, Ray Miller erf North Wilkes boro and Robert and Nor man Miller erf Boone; six sis ters, Mrs. Turner Watson, Mrs. Emmit Oliver, Mrs. Glenn Stansberry, Mrs. Estel Dob son, Mrs. Gurney Triplett and Mrs. Clyde Hoke of Boone; 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral was at 10 o’clock Friday morning at Mount Ver non Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Hayes and the Rev. Wen dell Critcher officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Sarah E. Ward Miss Sarah Emma Ward, 78, of Route 1, Sugar Grove, died Thursday at a Morganton nurs ing borne. She was born in Watauga County to John and Mary El len Farthing Ward. Surviving are two brothers, Luther Ward of Sugar Grove and Don Ward of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Mrs. M. L. Shepherd and Miss Yvonne Ward of Sugar Grove. The funeral was held at 2 p. m. Sunday at Antioch Bap tist Church. The Rev. Carl Wilson officiated. Burial was in Ward Cemetery. Mrs* G. E. Bumgarner Lenoir — Mrs. Mamie Lail Bumgarner, 75, of Hudson, wife of Garland Edgar Bumgarner, died Thursday at a Valdese hospital. She was born in Watauga County to Isam and Lou Hart ley Lail. Surviving are her husband; four daughters, Mrs. W. W. Church, Mrs. Shuford Beach, Mrs. W. G. Houser and Mrs. Tommy Seagle of Route 2, Hud son: two sons, Earl Bumgarner rf Rhodhiss and Ernest Bum garner of Route 1, Hudson; four sisters, Mrs. Ada Icard of Lin colnton, Mrs. Etta Stillwell of Route 5, Hickory, Mrs. Zora Helton of Newton and Mrs. John sie Benfield of Granite Falls; and one brother, Roby Lail of Connelly Springs. The funeral was held at 3 p. m. Sunday at Center Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Everette Greene Lenoir—Everett Greene, 76, of Route 5, Lenoir, died Wed nesday at a local hospital fol lowing a lingering illness. He was born in Watauga Coun ty, the son of the late Joseph and Vina Hatton Greene, and was a retired lumberman and farmer. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Cordia Bolick Greene; one son, Donald Greene of Route 5, Lenoir; two sisters, Misses Ina and Eliza Greene of Route 8, Lenoir; one brother, Ira Greene of Route 8, Lenoir; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Herring Crisp and the Rev. Willie Kimberlin officiat ing. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lucille Mast Graveside services for Mrs, Lucille A. Mast, 62, of West Palm Beach, Fla., were conduc ted Thursday at the Mast Ceme tery in Sugar Grove by Father Ed Smith. Mrs. Mast was borninCieve land, Ohio, and was a former resident of Sugar Grove. She died Tuesday of last week in West Palm Beach. Surviving are the husband, Arlis M. Mast of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons, Clayton W. Mast of Willoughby, Ohio and Robert A. Mast of Euclid, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Dal ton of West Palm Beach; one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Lord of Cleveland, (Mo; one brother, James Thompson of Cleveland, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren. Charles Swift Mr. Charles Swift, 85, of La Ferin, Texas, and a former resident of Watauga County died May 8th in Valley Baptist Hos pital in LaFerin after a short illness. Mr. Swfit moved to Texas in 1927 and was a member of the Baptist Church in LaFerin. Be fore retirement he owned and operated a citrus grove. He was married to the late Ollie Jones Swift. Survivors include three brothers, Carl Swift of Des Moines, Iowa, Dan Swift of Akron, Ohio, and Ray Swift of Sugar Grove; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Norris of Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services were in La Ferin and interment was in Rest Lawn Cemetery there. Miss Hayes Is In Who’s Who (Continued from page one) past year.
