SEEK STRATOSPHERE SAFETY Many methods of assuring safety I in the stratosphere are being ad vanced in Moscow, Russia, by engi neers and other scientists. One de vice is a hermetically sealed glider, suspended underneath the gondola. Should anything go wrong, the crew' could climb into the glider, detach it from the balloon and glide to earth. Another is a gigantic parachute, opening out from the envelope. In case of a too swift descent, the para chute could be opened and useed as a “brake.” A third consists of buf fers underneath the gondola. This idea would enable a falling stratos phere balloon to hit the earth with force and yet prevent its being smashed. - . • .... - ■ - Is - ’ iAfMwmcfng the Opening / - • | NEW DRUG STORE | In Edenton I \ I FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 1934 ■ I E v When in Edenton, We Cordially Invite You To Visit Our New Store. | Located in building formerly occupied by I | White s Wholesale Grocery, I | near Taylor’s Theatre. | I m* ■ f I ii a- E 3j We will feature only Quality Merchandise and J ' 1 0 you may expect our prices to be £ g §j as good as the best.
