C., Oct. 8, 1935 The Town Council met this day in the Town Office at 8:00 o’clock P. M., in regular monthly, session. Present were: E. W. Spires, Mayor, O. B. Perry, G. M. Byrum, T. W. Jones, and A. Perry, the Town Council is appointed as a committee of the whole Council to draft Resolutions of Respect on the death of Councilman X. E. Copeland. On motion duly seconded and car ried William E. Bond is appointed as councilman from the Fuortb Ward to serve the unexpired term of X. E- Copeland, deceased. On motion duly carried L. P. Wil liams is appointed Mayor Pro Tem. On motion duly carried William E. Bond is appointed third member of Finance Committee. On motion duly carried the follow ing resolution is unanimously adopt ed: Resolved that J. N. Pruden is ap pointed special attorney, and author ized and directed to bring suit to foreclose Town Tax Sales Certificates for taxes for 1932 at a fee of $2.50 per suit. The following resolution was in troduced by T. W. Jones, seconded by O- B. Perry, and unanimously adopted: Resolved that the budget for the fiscal year 1935-36 now on file with the Town Clerk, a summary of which was published in accordance with law on September 12, 1935, is hereby adopted and the appropria tions and tax levies set out therein are hereby made and levied. The following resolution was in troduced bv G. M. Byrum, seconded by O. B. Perry, and unanimously adopted: Resolved that for the purpose of meeting appropriations heretofore made for the current fiscal year and in anticipation of the collection of taxes and revenues of the current fiscal year the Town of Edenton is authorized to borrow not exceeding Twenty Thousand ($20,000.00) Dol lars. Negotiable notes shall be issued for the money so borrowed. Such notes may be renewed from time to time and money may be borrowed upon notes from time to time for the payment for any indebtedness evi denced thereby but all such notes shall mature not later than the 10th day of October 1936 and shall bear interest not exceeding six per cent per annum. Subject to the approval of the Local Government Commission, the Mayor is authorized to fix the face amount and rate of interest of the said notes within the maximum aforesaid and is further authorized to dispose of said notes by public or private negotiation at not less than par. The said notes shall be signed by the Mayor and Clerk and shall have affixed thereto the corporate seal of the Municipality. They shall be submitted to and approved by the attorney for the Municipality before they are issued and his approval shall be endorsed on the notes. The Mayor is further authorized to make application to the Local Government Commission for its ap proval of said notes and to furnish such Information and to perform such ether acts in connection with the is suance of said notes as may be law- I fully required by said Local Govern ment Commission.
