included in Zones 7 and 8, Zone T
extends from the North Carolina'
Virginia Erne on the north to New
Topsails. Inlet on the south and ex
tends six miles inland from the coast, j
Zone $ includes the area west off
Zone 7, between the North Csroiina-
Virginia lime and New Topsail Inlet.
It is, therefore, suggested that those
desiring to hunt ducks in these zones
contact the office of Lieut. N. H.

V. S. Coast Guard, Elizabeth City.

, And Stamp Success
According to the Treasury Depart
ment, the September war bond drive
has come to a glorious climax, Secre
tary Morgemthau terming it an '“out
standing success.” In a letter to the
war activities committee of the mo
tion picture industry S. H. Fabian,
national campaign director, expresses
- his gratitude for the part the thea
- ties throughout the country played

i reporting that during September the
t local theatre sold $2,136 worth of
: bonds and stamps, and that since

stamps have been sold at the box
office.
Commenting on the drive, Mr.
Earnhardt says: “By the way, the
war is not yet wen. War bonds and :
stamps must continue to be sold in
ever increasing amounts. The Sep
tember drive is over but the selling
of bonds and stamps is part of our
J job for the duration. Keep up the;
good work.”
Young Men Needed
For Inshore Patrol
Chief Robert E. Brooks of the U.
; S. Navy, was in Edentom last week
seeking enlistments for inshore duty,
which includes petroling of the
coastline and inland waterways. For
young men who are interested in
this phase of defense work, they may
secure necessary information at

Norfolk, Vsl.
Chief Brooks left a number of at
tractive and instructive booklets at

tail as to the advantages of joining
the Navy. These booklets will be
given to any person who is interested

Davenport), who enlisted in the Naval
Reserves six months ago, was grad
uated in radio from the Bliss Elec
trical School in Washington, D. C.,
last Friday. He left immediately af
ter for Los Angeles, Calif., where he
will take another course in a radio
school.
Hallet Ward Everett went to Nor
folk, Va., Saturday to join the Mer
chant Marines.
Mrs. Elmer Davenport and daugh
ter, formerly of Greenville, are mak
ing their home in Mackeys for the
present. Mr. Davenport has enlisted
in the Naval Reserves.
John Forbes Davenport, of the
Para-troop division, stationed at Fort
Bragg, spent the week-end with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Daven
port.

J. N. Pruden Continues
To Collect Back Taxes
Hack taxes continue to trickle into
the county coffers due to the efforts
of J. N. Pruden, special tax attorney.
During September Mr. Pruden col
lected $410.13 for back taxes, which
were for smalt amounts from 1933
to 1940.
With Mr. Pruden ordered by the
County Commissioners to institute
suits in order to collect back taxes,
j the books are gradually being cleared
of money owing the county.
