PAGE FOUR County’s Oldest Lady Celebrates Birthday Mrs. Ellen Byrum 92 Years Old Thursday, March 11 Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Byrum enter tained at a lovely birthday dinner at their home Thursday of last week in honor of Mr. Byrum’s mother, Mrs. Ellen Byrum, who celebrated her 92nd birthday. Num erous cards were received from friends conveying congratulations upon reaching the 92nd milestone. The centerpiece on the table was white carnations and white gladoli together with white candles. An at tractive birthday cake, prepared by Mrs. T. C. Byrum and decorated with small silk flags, especially pleased the elderly Mrs. Byrum, for she is an unusually patriotic person. She is Chowan County's oldest citizen and has lived through four wars. In the present conflict are four of her grandchildren and two great grand children. ’She has 31 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
