Smith-Douglass To Op Another Plant At Wilmington, N. C. Addition Will Help to Take Care of Increas ing Demand Wilmington, N. C. has been chosen as the site of the newest Smith-Doug lass Fertilizer Plant, according to an announcement recently made by Ralph Douglass, vice-president of the company. The new plant, which is located at Navassa, across the river from Wilmington will be in produc «on for the 1940-47 fertilizer season, ail road trackage to the plant has recently been completed. It is plan ned to Complete installation of all necessary machinery during the com ing summer months. This will put Smith-Douglass in a very much better position to serve the increasing de mand for its goods from prosperous eastern North Carolina, Mr. Douglass said. Smith-Douglass already has plants at Norfolk and Danville, Vir ginia and at Kinston, North Carolina, to service Carolina and Virginia far mers. Many orders from the Middle West and the increasing use of commercial fertilizers in that section prompted the Smith-Douglass Company to open a plant at Streator, Illinois late last year. Planned first as a dry mixing plant only, it was later decided to add an acidulating unit for the com plete production of S-D brands. The Streator plant, which is tinder the management of William B. Copeland, has been in production for only a few months. Already orders have been received that will keep it running to capacity for the remainder of its first season. The Smith-Douglass plant at Nav assa will add materially to an indus try that has long been famous at that location. Plans are maturing for Smith-Douglass to manufacture its well known brands such as "Orange” and "Old Glory” tobacco fertilizers, “Square Deal” and'"Money Maker” general crop fertilizers, as well as many other Smith-Douglass brands at the new Navassa Plant. But it has its obligations and its responsibilities too. Whether you are a Captain leading your men or a fertilizer manufacturer in the first rank of your industry, you will not keep your position for long unless you are ready and willing to assume the obligations that your position entails. No one is more conscious of these facts than Smith-Douglass. In the making of tobacco fertilizers, Smith-Douglass has attained a reputation and position second to none. That reputation and that posi tion were NOT attained by making fertilizers “just like” or merely “just as good as” the other fellow, but by making fertilizers that were BETTER. You’ll never make anything BETTER if you make it just as everyone else does. ★ Smith-Douglass fertilizers are DIFFERENT. They always have been DIFFERENT. And we expect to keep on making them DIFFERENT. • ★ Smith-Douglass has blazed a trail in the making of tobacco fertilizers that produce more pounds to the acre and mean more dollars when the crop is sold. ★ We are convinced that tobacco farmers want that kind of fertilizer 1 ' for their tobacco crops. We feel that is one of the obligations of. 1 , BJLb_B leadership to continue making that kind of tobacco fertilizer for you. SmithflouflassCa 1 ★ Yes, Smith-Douglass fertilizers are DIFFERENT. They could never have attained their reputation in any other way.
