Negro home demonstration club
women of Chowan County held their
second annual Achievement Day Fri
day, October 25, in the Drown-Carver
Library with Mrs. Gladysteen H.
Fait as guest speaker. Mrs. Fait
spoke on the subject “Health Today
and Tomorrow” and gave the women
quite a bit of information concerning
health. She also invited those pres
ent to visit and make use of the local
Health Department at any time.
William Cooper, 4-H Club special
ist from Greensboro, was present,
giving some helpful information and
complimented members on the fine
work they have done during the year.
Club members, as well as Miss Es
ther Burgess, colored home agent, and
J. B. Small, colored farm agent, ex
pressed their appreciation to the vari
ous business establishments for the
prizes awarded winners for exhibits.

Two Edenton Boys
On Atlantic Christian
College Football Team
Two Edenton boys are members of
the Atlantic Christian College foot-
J ball squad this season. These two
members, Frank White and Johey
Griffin, are former Edenton High
School stars.
! 'White has stood out in the line
for Coach M. J. Bird’s Bulldogs in
| each of the club’s contests this sea
| son. White played for Edenton High
School in 1942-43 and 44. He was
j captain of the Aces his final two
I years. Although White was a guard
in High School, he has been holding
down the center position at ACC. A i
big boy weighing 190 pounds. White]
is expected to do a lot of catching:
on the baseball squad next spring.
He is a freshman at the Wilson |
school and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. |
Frank White of Edenton.
Griffin has been the hard luck
member of the ACC squad. He has
been out of the line-up all season
long with an injured knee sustained!
in practice sessions prior to the open
ing of the Season. Griffin is a base
ball pitcher and was a member of
the Edenton club which captured the
, championship of the Albemarle Leag- 1

1942 and 43 seasons. He also hurled
for the Aces in baseball. He is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler Grif
fin of Edenton
J. D. Thorne, who is well known
in Edenton as a result of having
pitched for the Albemarle League
champs last summer, is the ACC
trainer, Thorne played football in
high school but has shyed away from
the gridiron this season upon the
advice of several big league scouts
who have showed an interest in the
Elm City boy. He expects to be a
member of the basketball and base
ball teams, however.
