Scoutin' A round fly PETER CARLTON An open letter to Babe Ruth—“king of swat - ’: Dear Law:: We kids are mighty glad to hear that you’ve come through your operation successfully. While there are many great ball players before and after your tenure as the “mighty batsman,” you’ll always be a sym bol of colorful, active baseball. The first time we saw you go to bat was in the Yankee Stadium, way back in the 1920’s —when we were still in grammar school. You became a hero even before we saw you because you got us out of school for the afternoon just so we could go to the ball game. Then, of course, you became our hero twice over because*—well, because you are Babe Ruth. And because of the im pression you made on us which has lasted through all these years—that impression we all got when we were kids with “runny noses”, we are writing this letter and saying “hi Babe” —along with the rest of the kids who gathered as you came out of the hospital the other day. And Babe, we heard that the Missus plans to carry you to Florida for recup eration —we’d like so much for you to come and stay with us here in Edenton. The weather is just fine and the town of a size that is real neighborly. Jenkins Motor Company, who is operating a garage at ■ ™ 105-109 East Queen Street, has just installed the complete set of I 0 gauges and tools used in the BEAR SYSTEM OF WHEEL ALINB- P j ' MENT. This is the method used and recommended by practically all p important automobile manufacturers, because it is the most accurate P I ft method known and the only system that returns every car and truck £ * to original factory specifications so that it steers like new. \ 0 l No feature of automotive service has come so prominently to pub- p > lie attention during the past few years, as the maintenance of aline- > ment in the front-end and wheels. This is because the combination * > 0 all-the-year driving and higher speeds created a need for a service that > would insure reduced operating costs and greater degree of motoring > P safety. >0 0 > Perhaps the most frequent source of trouble is a slight ber.d or m J P twist of the front axle or knee units which throws the wheels out of J 0 line and scrapes the tires sideways along the road. It also causes wan > 0 dering, weaving, and bad steering. 0 An essential feature of the new BEAR EQUIPMENT is the fact | g that it includes special hydraulic devices for straightening bent or twisted axles and knees in the car by cold process, which does not as- P feet the temper of the metal nor weaken the front suspension. By ™ ’ 0 correcting these parts in the car, it saves the car being tied up for l days while such are removed for straightening. B W- A. E. Jenkins believes that offering such a device to Edenton mo- g torists is a real forward step in accident prevention, and that use of g| the service will also save motorists many dollars in the tire reaiaee- ! 0 ments.
