PAGE TWO John R. Griffin Dies At Heme Monday % _ _ ... 4 Was One of First Rural Carriers In Chowan County t John R. Griffin, 82, passed away at his home on East Eden Street Mon day morning shortly after 8 o’clock. He had been in failing health for sev eral years, and his condition became critical three weeks ago. A native of Perquimans County, Mr. Griffin moved to Edenton and for many years oper ated a bakery and grocery store. He retired some years ago due to his health. Deceased was one of the first rural mail carriers to serve Chowan Coun ty, taking over a route when rural mail service was inaugurated in the county. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Har riet W. Griffin, and a sister, Mrs. F. O. Daniels of Colerain.
