Kerr Scott has taken over the role of the First Lady of North Carolina. She is no stranger to club members because she was a charter member of the first Canning Club in Alamance County. During the intervening years she has been active in the pro gram and served as president of the Hawfield’s Home Demonstration Club. Governor and Mrs. Scott came to the Mansion from their home ir> Alamance County. The Scotts are home-loving people and will no doubt often return to their Melville Dairy Farm to find the love and contentment, the comfort, beauty and order which is expressed from the interior of the house to the flower garden without. As the wife of the Governor she will preside over the affairs of the Mansion with the same modesty and efficiency for which she has been known by her friends and neighbors. Mrs. Scott says her first respon sibility during the years ahead is to keep the Governor healthy, happy and at his best. M. Edwards, Negro county agent for the State Col lege Extension Service. Growers are placing more empha sis on pastures and feeding a balanced ration, Edwards said. In addition, they are following recommended prac tices for the control of diseases and parasites. Members of 4-H clubs also are achieving unusual success with their swine projects, the county agent said, and all of them are looking forward to the Fat Stock Show to be held at Williamston May 12-13. Leroy Little, member of Woolard 4-H Club, started two pigs on full feed in January. They gained so rapidly that Leroy will have to mar ket one of them before the stock show is held. The other will weigh more than 300 pounds by the date for the show. Alton Peele, member of Smithwick Club, thought he would not be able to continue his swine project this year, since his corn crop was short and ht CARD /^OF^niANKS W Mrs. Mary Jones wishes to thank her many friends for their kindness and sympathy shown her during the illness and death of her husband, Gil bert Jones. Unsafe Ladders Lead To Falls Says County Agent “Check your ladders and your climbing habits if you want to be safe,” County Agent C. W. Overman of the State College Extension Ser vice said today in reminding farmers that unsafe ladders lead to falls. Periodic inspections should be made so that unsafe ladders can be either repaired or discarded, the county agent said. Ladders should not be left where they will fall, be tipped over, or bumped into. They should be stored in a readily accessible location where they can be obtained in a hurry in case of fire. Before mounting a ladder, be sure it is set securely. The National Safety Council recommends that it be set from a wall so that the base is one-fourth the distance to the top support. ' A ladder should also be tied or someone should hold it, if used where there is danger of slip ping. Always face the ladder going up or ISHOE SERVICE o Shoes Dyed (ANY SHADE) Suede Cleaned and Sprayed Like New POLISHES (ALL COLORS SOLD) o W. M. RHOADES SHOE REPAIR SHOP 429 S.
