PAGE FOURTEEN Deadline Is Nearing For Veterans’Bonus J. L. Wiggins Ready to Offer Any Assistance Necessary Stephen H. Alford, District Officer of the North Carolina Veterans Com mission announced today that veterans now residing in North Carolina from the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and , South Dakota should not delay filing , for their .state bonus as the deadlines ( ere rapidly drawing near. Ohio Bonuses are payable at the , rate of $lO per month for each month of domestic duty and sls per month for each month of foreign duty with a maximum payment of $400.00 Ser vice dates December 7, 1941 to Sep tember 2, 1945. Veterans must have served 90 days and been a resident of the State one year before induction. Honorable discharge required. June 30, 1950 final date for filing all claims. The Pennsylvania State Legislature in 1949 approved an amendment Au thorizing a bonus of $lO a month for state service and sls a month for for eign service, with SSOO as the maxi mum payment. The veteran must have served between December 7, 1941 and September 2, 1945 but those in service on latter date may count service up to March 2, 1946. Deadline for filing applications is July 1, 1950. South Dakota veterans may receive a bonus of 50 cents a day for domestic service, maximum SSOO, and 75 cents per day for foreign service, maxi mum $650. Requirements are 90 days of service between December 7, 1941 and September 2, 1945 and legal resi dence in the State for at least six months prior to entering service. June 30, 1950 is final date for filing. Other states paying bonuses are Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indi ana, lowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Vermont and Washington. Veterans residing in this section are urged to file for their State bonuses. J. L. W. Overman. The demonstrations are with the following: L. R. Blanch ard of the Gliden Community; J. A. Wiggins of the Center Hill Communi ty, and Thomas B. Wood of the Yeo pim Community. In this work the farmers are using N. C. 17, Dixie 17, U. S. 357, S-315, S-211, B-51, B-125W, G-512W, G -78GW, G-705 an 1 the local variety be ing grown on the farms. “While through the past work we have found N. C 27 and Dixie 17 to be of about the highest yield and quality,” said Mr. Overman, “and are generally concluded early hybrid for early hogging and also several growers continue to try hybrids that look good to them in other areas.” The purpose of, these demonstra tions is to let the farmers see the hy brids and varieties in comparison with each other under similar conditions, thereby enabling them to determine which ones suit the purpose for which they desire. Demonstration On Slip Covers May 4 Mrs. Bessie Wilkins Will Give Instructions at Meeting Miss Reibecca Colwell, home demon stration agent, announces that a spe cial interest meeting on slip covers for furniture will be held in the com munity building on Thursday, May 4, at 10:30 o’clock. Mrs. Bessie Wil kins, member of ithe Rocky Hock Home Demonstration dub, will give the demonstration. Each person is requested to bring a lunch, as the meeting will be from 10:30 until 3:30 o’clock. ‘The Duplin Story’ Will Be Repeated Dates For 1950 Show ing Set For Septem ber 7-12 “The Duplin Story”, Duplin Coun ty’s dramatic hit of Hast year during the bi-centennial celebration of the country’s history, will be repeated at Kenansville this year as the Mid- Century production of “The Duplin Story”. Again, Sam Byrd of “Tobac co Road” fame will direct and play the leading role in the drama he wrote, directed! and acted in last year. Cor win Rife of Dock Street Theatre, Charleston, S. C., will again be the technician, artist and mechanical di rector. Dates for the 1950 showing will be September 7,8, 11 and 12.
