Together witn Mrs. ; Hurd at the meetingOWte Mrs. Min nie Davis, Great Chief of Records and Mrs. Arkie Griggs, of Elizabeth City, immediate past Great Pocahontas, as ( well as a number of other Pocahontas members from Elizabeth. Mrs. Hurd was introduced by Mrs. Sam Allen and escorted to a seat be- ' side Mrs. Willie O’Neal, Pocahontas of the local Council. The Great Pocahon- ® tas was high in praise of the way lo- ' cal offices of Chowanoke Council, one ' of the youngest in the State, conduct- r ed the meeting and complimented the members for the attractive hall they have in which to meet. She spoke I briefly but very effectively about the; tenets of the order, Freedom, Friend ship and Charity. She realized, she said, that although the membership 1 is small in the local council, there is much interest and activity on the part * of those who make up the organiza- , tion. She urged the members to direct 1 some of their energy to securing can didates in order to build up member ship in the council. Prior to the meeting a delicious dinner was served buffet style. Tables j were attractively arranged in the * room and many flowers on the tables ‘ and in the hall added to the attract- . iveness of the occasion. * During the meeting presents from Chowanoke Council were presented ‘ Mrs. Hurd, Mrs. Minnie Davis, Mrs. Arkie Griggs and Mrs. Hettie Ames, j who is credited with being the “moth- . er” of Chowanoke Council. * After the meeting a number of local Pocahontas members and Elizabeth City visitors were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Horace White at their home in Pembroke Circle. RETURNS FROM TRIP * Mrs. A. C. Boyce, Mrs. M. W. Jack- ‘ son, Misses Lena Jones and Clara 1 Wheeler have returned from a motor trip through Western North Carolina, where they attended Kermit Hunter’s pageant, “Unto These Hills,” at Cher- . okee. Miss Jones, who has been hostess at Montreat this summer, joined the party there, and made the trip through the Great Smoky National Park, as far as Gatlinburg, Tenn., with the| Edenton travelers. : “The pageant is a wonderful reve-! Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bond returned Sunday afternoon from Nags Head, where they spent a week’s vacation. Miss Estelle Privott left Tuesday to spend a few days in Norfolk visiting! relatives. R. A. Miller, Sr., and Johnny Mil ler spent Sunday afternoon in Nor folk visiting Dick Cabiness, who is a patient in a hospital. Mr. Cabiness : was apparently getting along nicely. Warren Magee of New Orleans, La., is visiting his mother-in-law, Mrs. Charles F. Russell. Miss Emily Russell arrived home 1 from Wake Forest College, where she i attended summer school. Mr. and Mrs, Stanley Spangler and - son, Stanley, Jr., and Mrs. Leroy Spangler and grandson, Dale Brillhart, of York, Pa., arrived Saturday night to spend this week visiting J. Edwin ■ Bufflap and Miss Dorothy Bufflap. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bufflap and two daughters, Diane and Nancy, re turned to their home in York, Pa., af ter spending several days visiting J. Edwin Bufflap and Miss Dorothy Buf flap. i Mrs. Harrell Pratt and two children ■ have returned to their home in Nor folk after spending a few days visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kehayes. Mr. and Mrs. John Habit returned home after spending a week at Laurel, Miss., visiting friends. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Haynes and son of Charlotte visited friends in Eden ton Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr. Haynes is a former Edentonian. Mrs. Ernest Lee and daughter, Jeanette, returned home Tuesday af ternoon after visiting relatives in Buies Creek, N. C., and Bamberg, S. I C. They were accompanied home by j Mrs. Charlie Black, sister of Mrs. Lee, of Bamberg, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Holloway of Buies Creek, Mrs. Lee’s parents, who will spend a week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lee. PATIENT IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Gibson Brickie is a patient in Chowan Hospital, where she under went an operation for appendicitis. She is reported to be making satis factory progress. MRS. QUINN IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Henry G. Quinn is a patient', in Norfolk General Hospital, where, she underwent a major operation. Ac-! cording to last reports, Mrs. Quinn is making satisfactory progress. POCAHONTAS MEETS FRIDAY Chowanoke Council, No. 54, Degree; of Pocahontas, will hold its weekly j meeting Friday night at 8 o’clock in the Red Men hall. After a few more weeks, nearly all of these 468 teeth would be lost—a good example of prevention. Health Department officials offer the following advice: Let’s learn which teeth are per manent. Let’s watch for decay (cavities) in these permanent teeth. When they first start to decay, let’s see our dentist at once. Let’s see our dentist at least every six months.
