Great Pocahontas
Visitor In Edenton
Mrs. Pauline Hurd At
tends Meeting of Lo
cal Council
Mrs. Pauline Hurd, of
Great Pocahontas of? |l<jrth Carolina,
paid an official visit' to Chowanoke
Council, No. 54, Degree of Pqeahon
tas, Friday night. Together witn Mrs. ;
Hurd at the meetingOWte Mrs. Min
nie Davis, Great Chief of Records and
Mrs. Arkie Griggs, of Elizabeth City,
immediate past Great Pocahontas, as (
well as a number of other Pocahontas
members from Elizabeth.
Mrs. Hurd was introduced by Mrs.
Sam Allen and escorted to a seat be- '
side Mrs. Willie O’Neal, Pocahontas of
the local Council. The Great Pocahon- ®
tas was high in praise of the way lo- '
cal offices of Chowanoke Council, one '
of the youngest in the State, conduct- r
ed the meeting and complimented the
members for the attractive hall they
have in which to meet. She spoke I
briefly but very effectively about the;
tenets of the order, Freedom, Friend
ship and Charity. She realized, she
said, that although the membership 1
is small in the local council, there is
much interest and activity on the part *
of those who make up the organiza- ,
tion. She urged the members to direct 1
some of their energy to securing can
didates in order to build up member
ship in the council.
Prior to the meeting a delicious
dinner was served buffet style. Tables j
were attractively arranged in the *
room and many flowers on the tables ‘
and in the hall added to the attract- .
iveness of the occasion. *
During the meeting presents from
Chowanoke Council were presented ‘
Mrs. Hurd, Mrs. Minnie Davis, Mrs.
Arkie Griggs and Mrs. Hettie Ames, j
who is credited with being the “moth- .
er” of Chowanoke Council. *
After the meeting a number of local
Pocahontas members and Elizabeth
City visitors were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Horace White at their home in
Pembroke Circle.

A most interesting point observed
'from the above figures is that 468
six year molars (permanent teeth)
were filled by Dr. Koonce and only
16 had to be removed. After a few
more weeks, nearly all of these 468
teeth would be lost—a good example
of prevention.
Health Department officials offer
the following advice:
Let’s learn which teeth are per
manent.
Let’s watch for decay (cavities) in
these permanent teeth.
When they first start to decay, let’s
see our dentist at once.
Let’s see our dentist at least every
six months.

community is leaving something
worthwhile to his children.
