PAGE TWELVE George Alma Byrum President Os Jaycees New Slate of Officers Elected at Meeting Last Week At the meeting of the Junior Cham ber of Commerce last week George Alma ißyrum was elected president succeeding Kermit Layton. Sidles, secretary; treas urer, Charles Wales; directors for one year, Bill (Holmes, Paul Partin and Scott Harrell; directors for two years, Dick Diron, (Logan 'Elliott and J. C. Parks. Kermit Layton will he chair man of the board of directors. These officers will ibe installed at the meet ing on May 24. Art the meeting Charlie Noon, safety director of Associate Transports, Inc., spoke on transportation and highway safety. At the next meeting on (May 10 the club will go to Elizzabeth City in a body to attend the 'Seventh District meeting. Chowan Farmer And Son Is Featured In Progressive Farmer A Chowan County farmer and son are featured in the May issue of The Progressive Farmer magazine. They are 'Hubert Raye (Lane, a 4-H Club member, and his farther, H. H Lane, who “have learned that irt is very profitable to grow quality sweet potatoes and pack Ithem properly for market.” Both have won prizes at N. C. The order was given by the North i Carolina Wildlife Resources Commis sion due to this creek considered a spawning area. Wake Forest Trims Edenton Colonials Eller Holds Locals to Three Hits; Lose at New Bern Sunday Wake Forest’s Demon Deacons had little difficulty in defeating 'Edenton’s Colonials in an exhibition game on Hicks Field 'Saturday night by a score of 11-0. A goodly crowd of sane were on hand to witness Max Eller, Wake Forest hurler, silence the Colonials’ bats. Eller allowed only one hit, a double by Manager Gashouse Parker in the fourth inning, until the ninth when (Brooks and Griffin singled to net only three hits during the game. On the other hand, the Deacons chalked up hits in every inning ex cept the fourth. Raines was touched for eight hits in six innings. He was relieved by Holt in the seventh, but the Deacons took a liking to his slants and chalked up nine hits in the three remaining innings, five of which net ted runs in the eighth.
