PAGE TWELVE Conference Tourney Starts February 28 At Chowan High School Six Teams Entered In Chowan River Con ference The Chowan River Conference bas ketball tournament will be held in the i Chowan High School gymnasium Feb- ' ruary 28, 29 and March 1.1 Six schools will enter teams in the : tournament, including Harrellsville, I Mars Hill, Gatesville, Sunbury, Hobbs ville and Chowan. Starting time for 1 the first two nights will be 5:35 IP. M. This will be the first time the tournament has been scheduled to be ' played in the Chowan High gym- 1 nasium, and a hearty welcome is ex tended to all schools and their patrons 1 during the tournament. C., after visiting relatives and friends in Edenton. They were ac companied by Mrs. R. W. Hurdle and Mrs. Sarah Everett, who will spend some time visiting Mr. and Mrs. ; Horace Hurdle in Washington. Mrs. L. H. Ambrose left Monday ■ for Washington, D. C., where she is visiting relatives. Byron Kehayes, USN, stationed at Cherry Point, spent the week-end visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kehayes. Mr. and Mrs. Richard P. Baer are spending a vacation in Bermuda Pocahontas Game Party Scheduled Friday Night Chowanoke Council, No. 54, De gree of Pocahontas, will sponsor a game party Friday night. The party will be held at the home of Mrs. Er ma Allsbrook on Broad Street, start ing at 8 o’clock. Refreshments will be served, and it is hoped many mem bers and their husbands will attend. C < !—H——; , Miss Jane Goodwin Addressesßuritans Club Starts Drive For Electric Clock at Chowan High Miss Jane Goodwin, Chowan High School winner of the World Peace Contest sponsored by the Edenton Wo man’s Club, addressed the Ruritans at their regular meeting Monday night at the Community Building at Cross Roads. Miss Goodwin was introduced by W. J. Nichols, principal of the school. Other speakers on the pro gram were Leon Privott and Sammy Byrum. String music was also fur nished by Leon Privott, Sammy By rum, Jack Evans and Britton Byrum. Important business was transacted with the president, Tom A shell, pre siding. All members of the club voted unanimously to raise money to purchase an electric clock for Chowan High School. A voluntary collection was taken, with S3B being raised. One member agreed to lend the bal ance needed after S2OO is raised by the membership. Several companies have agreed to give $25 toward the clock, and Coach C. P. Darr also pledged $25. Ruritan members will contact interested people to solicit funds in order to purchase the clock. Anyone interested is asked to contact any member of the Ruritan Club or W. J. Nichols. For the time t being, they are meeting in the school library due to the need of furniture for their new quarters. Mia. Sheehy is seeking, and will appreciate any donations of furniture, hooka or any- U thing that might be used in the club 1 room. Particularly needed are chairs, she said. The only equipment on hand so far is six chairs, donated by Belk- Tyler, and a cabinet, a gift of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Dulaney. A girl scout troop should be an asset to the town, and it is hoped local citizens will come forward with donations in an ef fort to keep the scouting spirit alive here. The scout roster shows twenty-three intermediates, with ages ranging from 10 to 13 years. Meetings are held every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5 o’clock and scouts pay weekly dues of five cents. The troop is made up of three patrols, with the following serving as officers: Flag Patrol —Araminita Hobbs, lead er; Brenda Mooney, secretary; Jane Dulaney, treasurer. Safety Patrol—Patricia Bunch, lead er; Linda Leary, secretary; Ruth Stokely, treasurer. Blue Bird Patrol—Sylvia Pearce, 1 leader; Delores Basnight, secretary; Marie Small, treasurer. Rosa Hollo well is treasurer of the troop and Beverly Conn is scribe. Miss Louise Smith is assistant scout leader and the Neighborhood Committee is composed of Mrs. W. J. Conn, chairman; Mrs. Guy C. Hobbs, Mi-s. Worth Spencer, Mrs. Emmett Dale, Mrs. J. R. Dulaney and Mrs. Horace White. Mr*. Sheehy came to Edenton last year when her husband, Major Sheehy, was transferred to the local Marine Base.
