During June the Department of Mo
tor Vehicles reports 3,257 Tar Heel
> motorists were arrested and convict
ed for speeding. Another 1,494 faced
court action for driving without an
operator's permit and 1,404 were con
victed of reckless driving.
The Department in summarizing
violations for June, also reported 696
convictions for faulty esuipment; 552

To Drive In June
Driver license examiners of the De
partment of Motor Vehicles issued
16,857 licenses during June including
j renewals, duplicates, and originals.
(Os the total 10,241 were original op
jerator’s permits; 2,744 duplicate op
erator’s permits; 973 original chauf
feur’s licenses; 77 duplicate chauf
feur’s licenses; and 2,347 renewal
chauffeur’s licenses.
The examiners collected revenue in
the amount of $76,232.88 of which
$66,686.90 came from original opera
tor’s permits.
They also reported 449 suspensions
and 867 revocations during the month.
