Mrs. John Pavlieh and son and Mrs.
William S. Elliott and two sons re
turned home Sunday night after
spending a week visiting relatives in
fiobersonville.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Garret* and son,
Bobby, of Newport News, Va., spent
Sunday visiting Mr. Garrett’s moth
er, Mrs. John Garrett.
Miss Eula Garrett left Sunday to
spend some time visiting her brother
in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Garrett, in Newport News.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Siverston of
Clinton were brief visitors of Mr. and
Mrs. J. Edwin Bufflap Saturday while
enroute to Nags Head.
Mrs. Dace Adkinson and sons, Ste
wart and Stevie of Norfolk, are visit
ing Mrs. Adkinson’s parents. Mr. and
Mrs. Jesse Spruill, while Mrs. Spruill
is ill.
Miss Lena Jones has returned from
Montreat, after spending the past nine
weeks there as hostess at Glen Rock
Inn. She will resume her Work in the'
Edenton Elementary School as a I
teacher of the fourth grade on Sep-|

Raymond F. Heck, Jr.,
Succeeds William A.
Sutherland
Raymond F. Heck, Jr., of Bassett,
Va., has assumed the position of Field
Scout Executive of the Tidewater i
Council serving East and West Albe- J
marie Districts to succeed W. A.
Sutherland who has been promotd by ;
the Tidewater Council to assume ■
charge of the Norfolk District.
Heck together with his .wife and
child will reside at 1506 S. Williams !
Circle in Elizabeth City and will serve ]
the seven counties comprising the two .
districts. !,
He started out in Scouting at age ,
13 and became a First Class Scout in j
90 days. He came up through the ,
ranks as an assistant patrol leader, ;
patrol leader, and assistant scoutmas- j
ter, and was very active in the troop
until he went to college. At college, ,
he took several Scout courses and
helped with troops in the community. <
As a Scout, he did a great deal of n
camping and served on the Camp'
Powhatan staff for a number of sum
mers.
j While in college he entered the
:Navy V-5 program and was desig
nated Naval aviator and commission,
Ensign in February 1944. He was
j released from active* duty as a Lt.
: (jg) in January 1946. He returned
Ito college and graduated with a B. S.
degree in general science from VjP.I.
.in March, 1948. During the summer!
lof 1947, he took an 800 mile canoe I
| trip through the wilderness of north
'ern Canada.
After graduating from college, he
entered the 129th National Training
| School for Professional Leaders. As
'soon as his professional training was
completed, he joined the staff of the
Roanoke Area Council, Roanoke, Va.,
>as Field Scout Executive of Roanoke,
''Salem, and Boteourt-Craig Districts.
IHe directed the annual Council camps
during the summers of 1949 and 1960.
iHe terminated his services with the
i Council on February 27, 1951, and at
I that time accepted a job with the
J. D. Bassett Manufacturing Com
pany, Bassett, Va., as sales manager.
He has been active in the Platrick-
Henry District as camping chairman
ifor the past year and a half.
