PAGE TWO Mrs. R.L Gordon 1 Speaker For PIA Stresses Importance of Wise Home Planning By Parents “The future of our world depends largely on the foundation laid to day,” Mrs. R. E. Gordon told members of the Edenton Parent Teacher Asso ciation meeting last week, when she dpoke on the subject “Today’s Home, Tomorrow's World.” “Our boys and girls today will soon be the thinkers and acters and lead ens of tomorrow,” she said, and re ferring to the need of proper home training, went on to say, “We have a unique responsibility in the home in preparing our children to be the lead ers of the future.” To this end Mrs. Gordon urged par ents to plan wisely their homes and the lives of their children, pointing out that God should always be includ ed in their plans. 'Mrs. Gordon was introduced by the program chairman, Mrs. C. W. Overman. ’A feature of the meeting was music by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. C. A. Phillips, Miss Joan Cobb, ,C. W. Overman and W. M. Cozart, with Mrs. M. A. Hughes at the piano. Mrs. Roland Vaughan, president, presided over the meeting and called for reports from the various com mittees. The association agreed to enter a float in the forthcoming Christmas parade. This Week’s Poem By WILBORNE HARRELL THE CHILDREN’S CORNER Note: From time to time this column will publish a poem for children. MAMMY JO’S ANSWER Tell me, Oh, tell me, Mammy Jo, There’s lots of things I want to know: Does God wind the birds to make them go? And turn on the breezes to make them blow? Does He move the earth with a great big handle, And light up the sun like Mama lights a candle? Lawsy me, chile, de questions you do ask; You’ve sho’ give yo’ mammy a diffy cult task. God holds dis world in de palm of His hand, And deres a millyum things we cannot understand. Just perzackly what it is dat makes de birdies fly Is not to be revealed until de sweet bye-and-bye— So try to be happy and do your very, very best, And God in His wisdom will take care of de rest. Nothing can bring you peace but yourself; nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles. » —Emerson Another Great feature of the JOHN DEERE , “50” and “60” Tractors... ibAh I^life 1 HERE’S ever-ready hydraulic power that’s completely independent of both the transmission, clutch and power shaft . . . smooth, positive power, that provides the easiest, fastest implement control you’ve ever known.
