making a "dress and modeling it, with
both ladies’ and children’s clothing be
ing featured.
Prizes for the fashion show will be
N awarded by the Belk-Tyler Store of
Edenton. No admission will be charg
ed.
The committee in charge of the ar
rangements includes Mrs. John Bond,
Mrs. Federal Taylor and Mrs. Owen
Barfield.
Seniors Os Chowan
High Are Entertained
The Senior Class of ChoWan High
School was entertained at a St. Pat
rick’s Day party, (March 'l7, at the
home of Mrs. E. R. Wilson in honor of
Marguerite Wilson.
As the guests entered they received
a Shamrock with a number on the
back. A number was picked and the
door prize was won by “pete” Rid
dick. Other prizes were won by
Dearl Parks and Stanford Perry.
Delicious refreshments were served
and everyone expressed thanks and
appreciation for a lovely evening.
Those attending were: “"Pete” Rid
dick, the Mascots, ISylvia Knight and
Johnny Winbome. Each member of
the Senior Class were present and are
as follows:

Being Beautified

Mrs. T. B. Smith is Treasurer of the
Association and will he glad to accept
money for this purpose.
On April 16th and 17th, the Depart- 1
ment of Conservation and Develop
ment of the State of N. C., will hold
a two-day meeting in EHzalbth City,
with Mrs. Inglis Fletcher os guest
speaker. Mrs. Fletcher will speak on
Elizabethan Gardens. After the com- -
pletion of the meeting -and Mrs.
Pitcher’s speech it is hoped that the 1
Committee will drive to Edenton and 1
the James Iredell (House, where the *
D.A.R. Chapiter has invited them for
tea, and an opportunity to look at the
house and property which they so re
cently acquired. The Chapter is very
proud of the restoration work, inside
and out, that they have done on the
house and grounds, and with the ,
kitchen very recently modernized, they
feel that the house is in more useable
condition and hope that it will bo used '
by organizations and groups in the ;
town and county.

standing committees. Miss Rebecca
Colwell told of extensive work on
the hospital grounds and expressed her
thanks to (Frank V. White, Chowan
County forest ranger, for five native
cedars and two red maples. Foun
dation planting for the front and east
end of the nurses’ home is under way.
Shrubs from the library, bulbs from
Mrs. Fred Wood, iris from Mrs. Eliz
abeth Flynn and fertilizer from John
G. Wood were gratefully acknowledg
ed.
Mrs. J. N. Braden talked on early
physicians of Edenton. Beginning
with Dr. John King in 1694, the list
included many illustrious hemes such
as Dr. Gabriel Johnston, Dr. Hugh
Williamson, Dr. (Samuel Dickenson, Dr.
Edward Warren, Bey. It is a matter
of history that many of these made
outstanding contributions to medical
science and also excelled to statesman
ship.
After the meeting Mrs. George Hos
kins and Mrs. A. E. Jenkins were in
charge of a delightful tea.

The Paxton House—W. King fR.

Buil t in the late 1790’a by Samuel
Butler, this bouse takes its name
from the family who owned ft from
1851 to 1926. In recent yean the
stairway was moved from the aide to
the center of the house, and the hall
divided into two rooms. Realizing the
relation of this house to the slightly
later New Bern houses, the present
owners have added an appropriate
porch and are restoring the interior
to its original state. Present own
ers, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Wood.
Beverly Hall—W. King St. Open

Built in 1910, this house was one
of the three original branches of the
first State Bank of North Carolina.
The great vault remains in the house.
