The party spent a short time at Mt. Gould on the Bertie side before returning home and Mr. Leary snapped the above picture just before the return trip. In the picture are, front row, left to right, Jesse Phelps, father of Mrs. C.' R. Mason, Dr. M. P. Whichard, Captain J. L. Wiggins, Dr. Robert B. Drane, Millard F. Bond, J. C. Dail, S. E. Morris and George E. Major. Back row, left to right, Sheriff E. S. Norman, J. Edwin Bufflap, Frank W. Curran, John C. Bond, J. W. Cates, Carlton Mason and C. LaMontagne. All but four of the group have passed on during the intervening years, the only ones still living being Captain J. L. Wiggins, S. E. Morris, Carlton Mason and J. While the mel on yield is below normal, the price has been very good and most growers will do all right with their water melons. Several growers have report ed watermelon vines dying.
