About a quarter of a century ago the late Dick Leary, a boat fancier, invited a group of Edenton men to go on his boat for a ride across Albemarle Sound. The
party spent a short time at Mt. Gould on the Bertie side before returning home and Mr. Leary snapped the above picture just before the return trip. In the picture
are, front row, left to right, Jesse Phelps, father of Mrs. C.' R. Mason, Dr. M. P. Whichard, Captain J. L. Wiggins, Dr. Robert B. Drane, Millard F. Bond, J. C. Dail,
S. E. Morris and George E. Major. Back row, left to right, Sheriff E. S. Norman, J. Edwin Bufflap, Frank W. Curran, John C. Bond, J. W. Cates, Carlton Mason and C.
LaMontagne. All but four of the group have passed on during the intervening years, the only ones still living being Captain J. L. Wiggins, S. E. Morris, Carlton
Mason and J. Edwin Bufflap.

Dry Weather Reduces
Yield But Prices
Good \
County County’s watermelon crop
has been very good the
extremely dry season. While the mel
on yield is below normal, the price
has been very good and most growers
will do all right with their water
melons. Several growers have report
ed watermelon vines dying. The Con
go variety was planted in most fields
and this variety has very little resist
ance to wilt. Several fields have been
visited by the County Agent, who
took soil samples and plant specimens
for analyzation and diagniwfr. \
