C. Bunch, chairman of tlje Albemarle Soil Conservation Dis trict. This period has been designated by Governor Luther H. Hodges for the observance of Soil Stewardship Week which is being observed this year throughout North Carolina. The purpose of Soil Stewardship Week, which is sponsored nation wide by the National Association of Soil Conservation Districts is “to remind people in all walks of life that man is but a steward, not owner, of God’s soil, water and plants.” The observance was started as Soil Stewardship Sunday 10 years ago by a Southern farm maga zine, Farm and Ranch. The. re sponse of ministers and laymen was so great that the soil steward ship idea spread rapidly.
