I Masonic Banquet
In Neighborhood of
200 Attend Affair
Thursday Night
In. the neighborhood of 200 peo
ple gathered in the dining room
at the Masonic Temple Thursday
night when a banquet was sponsor
ed by Unanimity Lodge No. 7, A. F.
&A. M. The banquet, much of the
preliminary work of which was
done by W. M. Wilkins, was ar
ranged primarily to raise money to
apply on the temple’s indebtedness.
MK Wilkins furnished the country
ham, while other members made
contributions to pay for the re
mainder of the meal and members
of the Eastern Star prepared and
served the banquet free of charge,
so that all of the ticket sales were
used to curtail the indebtedness.
During the meeting the three
trustees, W. M. Wilkins, H. A.
Campen and .1. Edwin ilufflap. were
called to the head table, where a
1400 note was burned, with Ernest
Kehayes, master of the lodge, also |
participating. The note burning
ceremony brought forth a lusty
round of applause by Masons and
their friends.
W. T. Harry served as toastmas
ter and called upon W. A. Harrell
to return thanks and Ernest Ke
hayes welcomed the Masons and
their friends.
The program committee, com
posed of W. T. Harry. W. M. Wil
kins and J. Edwin BufTlap. arrang
ed a musical program instead of
having a principal speaker and
many favorable comments were
heard about the program, which
included several numbers by the
Starlighters. a quartet including
Bobby Pratt, Johnny Owens, Gus
Hughes, Jr., and Terry Bennett, ac
companied by Mrs. Conleth Mac-
Donald. Lieut. Jim Bowers thrill
ed the group with a few solos,
many of whom heard this talented
singer for the first time. The
Tailfuse Six orchestra presented
• several numbers anil included Lt.
Col. Dave Wyley, Major Jack Read,
Errol Flynn and Mrs. Conleth Mac-
Donald. Mrs. Grace Smith alsi
delighted those present with a few
unique solos and a piano-organ
duet by Mrs. Conleth MacDonald
and Mrs. John Ross also was a de
lightful feature. The final feature
on the program was several num
bers by a quartet composed' of C.
W. Overman, Jack Mooney, Jim
Daniels and W. T. Harry.
