Bunch. Miss Lula Williams, the band di rector, attended the meeting and outlined plans for the 1956-57 term. The first meeting of the associa tion is scheduled to be held Tues day night, October 16, at 8 o’clock at the Junior-Senior High School 1 when the full marching band will play for members and patrons. Al so scheduled is a trip to Chapel Hill to participate'in “Band Day” on October 6. The group will perform during half time at the UNC-Wake Forest football game. The band at present has a mem bership of 53. Twelve members were lost by graduation or trans fer, while 14 new members were added. Among these are former members of the Junior Band group, the newly organised band in the Elementary School. Miss Williams reports the hand in very good shape with the ex ception of instruments. The instru ments on hand meet most marching needs but there are practically no instruments of the concert type. The annual Booster Day scheduled for early November will be con ducted to fill this need. He is moderator of the Chowan Baptist Association, chairman of the Board of Deacons of the First Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, vice president of the Northeastern District of the Department of Su perintendents of the North Carolina Education Association, member of the four county Board ’of Health, member of the Pasquotank County Chapter of the American Red Cross, member of the board of trus tees of the Elizabeth City State Teachers College and a member of the board of directors of the Cam den, Pasquotank and Perquimans Counties Health and Tuberculosis Association. He was elected as a District Gov ernor of Rotary International for the ■'1956-1957 fiscal year at Ro tary’s 47th Annual Convention in Philadelphia last June. He is one of the 248 District Governors su pervising the activities of more than 9,100 Rotary Clubs which have a membership of 431,000 business and professional executives in 99 countries throughout the world. Wherever Rotary Clubs are lo cated, President Byrum asserted in discussing the Governor’s visit, their activities are similar to those of the Rotary Club of Edenton be cause they are based on the same general objectives —developing bet ter understanding and fellowship among business and professional men, promoting community-better ment understandings, raising the standards of business and profes sions, and fostering the advance ment of good will, understanding and peace among all the peoples of the world.
