Hornets Will Tackle Jacksonville Friday The Hornets of Edenton Colored High School will play the Hawks at Jacksonville Friday night, Oc tober 5, at 8 o’clock. In the past two previous meetings of the two teams the Hornets were on the short end of the score. The Hornets have been drilling ’ hard for the past week trying to get ready for the strong Jackson ville .team, who were last year’s Class AA State champions. In practice Captain George Rob erts at tackle, Quarterback Thomas Nixon, Fullback Thomas Harris and substitute center Clifton Harris were very impressive. The Hornets’ record so far this season is two wins and one loss; both wins resulting from cancella tions. C. E. Tynch Dies At Home Monday Charles Edward Tynch, 69, a na tive of Chowan County died about . noon Monday at his home in the Rocky Hock section. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jen nie Tynch; two sons, Charles S. Tynch of Edenton and Norman Tynch of Nashville, Tenn.; five daughters, Mrs. Eva Harrell of Edenton, Mrs. Gladys King of Aveneal, N. J., Mrs.- Mildred Hobbs of Hobbsville, Mrs. Inez Suies of Phoebus, Va., and Mrs. Dolly Willi ford of Windsor; a brother, Joseph Tynch of Edenton and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Monette of Rahway, N. J.; 20 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was a member of the Rocky Hock Baptist Church, where funeral services were held Wednesday af ternoon at 3:30 o’clock. The pas , tor, the Rev. B. L. Raines, officiat ed and burial was in the family cemetery. M. Dr. Meyer is a leading writer of textbooks and of other authorita tive work in the field of organized recreation in Girl Scout, Boy Scout, Municipal Recreation and State Recreation development. He is known throughout the land for his knowledge and his ability to put that into language which is under stood and appreciated by the las person. Ralph J. MATTIE CHARLTON DIES Mrs. Mattie Charlton, 69, died in Chowan Hospital Thursday night at 8:30 o’clock. She was a life long resident of Edenton. Funeral ■ services were conducted Sunday af ternoon in the Providence Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. C. C. Boone, officiating ; Burial was in Vine Oak Cemetery.
