Edenton Aces Wither Under Pressure And Again Bow To Elizabeth City By 12-0 Score Edenton’s Aces, like in so I many previous games, were ob viously affected by pressure in! their eagerness to win from the j Elizabeth City Yellow Jackets j Monday night, so that they were again obliged to return home ‘ with the short end of a 12-0 score. Th6 game was played in Elizabeth City Monday night due to cancellation Friday night on account of extremely inclement weather. The Aces played the Yellow Jackets on even terms until r.ear the end of the second quar ter when Elizabeth City scored j its first touchdown. The Aces were foiced to kick with the | ball going deep in Elizabeth City territory. Tatum fumbled the ball and the Aces, apparently thinking the ball was dead, al lowed John Miller to pick it up and race 67 yards far ahead of! any Edenton tacklers. This play apparently, took the starch out of the scrappy Aces, who from then on lacked the punch exhibited up to that time. The second Yellow Jacket touchdown came early in the third quarter when Ambrose snagged : a pass from McDowell ! over his shoulders a short dis tance ahead of Edehton tacklers and raced 45 without be ing touched. The Aces had two scoring; chances, but in each instance fumbles cost them the ball. In fact both teams fumbled sev eral times. In the second half the Aces’ strength appeared to dwindle as: tile Elizabeth City boys seemed to become more confident and stronger. However, aside from the two scoring plays, the Aces NEW! fall COATS i j The tapered elegance of the oval look . . . the youthful flare of the trapeze . . . the romantic, lady-like air of the Empire . . . all these, and I more, are silhouette news in coats for fall, j Plus exciting fabrics, colors! The Jackets led jin first downs, eight to five. ! Robert White, flashy Edenton | halfback, was the star player on the field Friday night, thrilling spectators with the return of punts, catching several passes and on several occasions wig gling away from the Yellow Jacket tacklers who ppeared to have him bottled up. Wilkins, while making a few gains, was held back most of the time by ; the charging Yellow Jacket line. jOn defense Fred Britton, • Mar j vin Ashley, Robert White and I Billy Griffin looked best, j The Edenton Band accom i panied the Aces and joined the crack Elizabeth City Band in providing color for the game | before, and „at half time.
