Memorials Givlri To Heart Fund Dr. Ed Bond, Chairman of the' Chowan County Heart Commit i tee, announces that increasing N numbers of individuals and or ganizations are remembering the dead' and giving comfort to the living by contributing through ' the North Carolina Heart Associ tion to a fund.for scientific heart research. To make a memorial gift, the check should be written to the Treasurer, George the Chowan County Heart Fund, and the donor should state the name of the person in whose memory the gift is made, and the name and address of the next of kin to be notified of the gift- These gifts are acknowledged pfjpmpt ly, both to the donor and to the next of kin. February Quiet Days v In Episcopal Churches Episcopal women will observe February Quiet Days in the Dio f cese of East Carolina, as follows: February 16, St. Paul’s Church, Greenville; February 17, Saint Mary’s Church, Kinston; leader, the Rev. George B. ’Holmes, rec tor of St. Paul’s Church. Edenton. Mrs. W. B. Rosevear of Edenton is Diocesan president of the Wo man’s Auxiliary. Mrs. John K. Hoyt, of Washing ton, Diocesan Chairman of De votions, has announced that a celehration of the Holy Commun ion will be held at 10 o’clock each day and the first address will be gin at 11:15; luncheon at 12:45, with each woman bringing her own lunch. Answer: They are a method j used to divide the available sup plies of milk for the purpose of paying dairy farmers and are de-1 termined according to the product j vhich is made from the milk. In ’North Carolina Class I milk is used to make homogenized and pasteurized bottled milk, multiple /itamin and vitamin D milk, choc date milk and cream; Class II mlk is used to produce butter nilk and skim-milk! Class 111 is used to produce butter, cheese ind cottage cheese, milk powders,' etc. Question: Since controls have been voted out, how will the lew corn program work? Answer: Under the new pro-. ;ram, there will be no allot nents or commercial corn coun- 1 ies. All corn-producing areas .vill receive the same support prices. The supports will be set it the average national price paid , or the three preceding crops, orj 35 per cent of parity, whichever ( lappens to be higher. For ex-, umple, No. 2 yellow corn which | was supported in commercial corn counties at $1.49 in 1958, und $1.12 per bushel in non-com-1 mercial counties, will be support-, ed at $1.28 per bushel in all counties in 1959. Under the new program, however, prices will be adjusted each year. Question: Does it pay to fer tilize forest trees? If so, what kind of fertilizer should be ap- ■ plied? I Answer: These are questions scientists are not prepared to an swer at the present time. A large number of studies are un der way to obtain information on forest tree fertilization. It may be 10 years, however, before any conclusive results are obtained. The scientists must first figure out the mineral requirements of each tree species, and then de cide if the application of these minerals will be economical. < Question: Does it pay to clip the udder and flanks of a milk cow? Answer: Yes, say dairy spe cialists for the N. C. Agricultural Extension Service. The clipping saves time in milking, as well as time in cleaning the udder be fore milking. This is especially true during cold weather when the hair is long. Throughout the day observances are held in 144 countries, end ing with the setting sun on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. The purpose of the day is to j unite all Christians in a bond of i prayer, to pray for all the peo- \ pies of the world, and to make an offering for Christian missions : at home and abroad. Each year the service comes j from a different country. The service for 1959 comes from 1 Christian women in Egypt. The offering is used for inter denominational mission work through the Divisions of Home and of Foreign Missions of the Na tional Council of Churches, after the cost of promotion and exten sion has been met.
