( of conduct of Which they think
the Lord would not approve,
jput how*well does the security
of anyone stand when he thinks
of being condemned for all the
golden opportunities for service
he has ignored? How. much we
need to grow in awareness at
this point!
These words of Jesus, which
we ate studying today, and by
which he identifies service to
one’s fellow men as service to
God,, are profoundly significant
for tHe Christian. In the first
place, they give a depth to ser
vice which is lacking in purely
humanitarian efforts. One may
have all the satisfaction that
comes from meeting the needs
of a fellpw human being, but
there is more. For the Chris
tian, service is the opportunity
to do something for the Master
whom he worships; therefore it
adds glory to life. In the sec
ond place, Jesus’ words present
a solemn warning, because cruel
ties and neglect can be done to
him, too.
The reference in the parable
suggests direct contacts between
individuals in a fairly simple
society. In our increasingly
complex and at the same time
narrowing world, the "inasmuch”
concept takes on ever widen
ing implications. Growth in
Christian concern means be
coming increasingly aware of
this concept in this widening
context.
Today, for instance, serving
the sick and imprisoned has far
widfer meaning than such an
idea once had. What facilities
do our communities provide for
these human beings? What is
the condition of the penal in
stitutions in our country? How
many deaths by traffic accidents
could be prevented, thus elim
inating much sorrow and suf
fering? What are we doing to
serve the victims of all these
tragedies?
If our answer is “nothing” will
the Master say to us, in the final
hours of judgment: “You did it
not to me?”
Let us pray for the broaden
ing of our vision, more sensi
tive spirits, and an increase in
our dedication to the service of
mankind —in His name!

Procedures Reduced
To Obtain Loans On
Farm Stored Grain
Procedures for obtaining a
loan on farm-stored grain have
been reduced making it simple
for farmers to make requests.
All a producer needs to do is
# call or write the ASCS office,
and make his request. After a
grade sample is obtained, mailed
to pnd received from the grad
ing laboratory, the farmer is
then notified when to come to
the county office to sign appli
cable forms and receive the loan
payment.
To be eligible for a corn loan
the producer must be partici
pating in the 1961 Feed Grain
Program. Another rule is there
must be adequate and suitable
storage space on the farm.
Wm. Privott Attends
Conference On Courts
GoV. Terry Sanford told the
Traffic Court Conference of
Lower Court Solicitors Tuesday
pf last week, October 24, that
“it’s good politics to enforce
traffit laws without regard to
individuals involved.”
Sanford said he was counting
on solicitors to become one of
the most important links in the
State’s highway safety efforts,
and that the people of the state
will support a rigid but fair en
forcement ainjed at saving liVte.
Solicitors in attendance at the
Conference in the Hall of the
House in Raleigh included Wil
liam S. Privott of Edenton.
