They i also know that nothing breeds illness like unsanitary surround j ings. When we have an ade-: i quate sewage disposal system, we will be in a much better po sition to attract industry, thus i bringing more revenue to Eden | ton and its citizens. With the idea of attracting new industry to our town, we must also consider the water supply, which is not unlimited. Billions of gallons of water are contaminated in our bay area, due to the emptying of the city’s raw sewage into it. Con taminated water means water that cannot be used unless it is treated through the proper fa cilities. Consequently, the over all water supply for Edenton is reduced by the fact that proper! facilities are not available to process properly the huge quan tities of contaminated water on 'hand. Per capita consumption of water, in the United States, j has risen from 122 gallons in ; 1940 to 150 gallons in 1960, and lis expected to rise to 165 gal lons in 1975. Five gallons are needed daily to wash our hands, face, shave, and brush our teeth. Every flush of the toilet requires sev-; en gallons of water. Washing j machines, air conditioners, gar- j bage disposals, and dishwashers create heavy demands. Eden ton’s water problems will be i solved with the elimination of I the contaminated water in our I bay area. Better health, better sanita tion and better living are per manent conditions which will continue for generations in 1 Edenton after the pollution abatement bonds have been paid in full. Consideration of these divi dends to us, your city council men, that the time has come for a change. Vote Yes on the (Sewer) bond issue November 21, 1961. ROTARIANS MEET TODAY Edenton Rotarians will meet [ this (Thursday) afternoon at 1, J o’clock in the Parish House.
