Rotary Governor Visits Edenton Continued from Page 1, Section 1 members, President Richard At kinson said, being those em ployed on the staffs at Rotary International headquarters in Evanston, Illinois and Zurich, Switzerland. Altogether, it was learned, world-wide there are 11,021 Ro tary Clubs with a membership in excess of 510,500 in 123 coun tries or geographical regions. Dr. Spencer was the guest speak at the weekly noon meeting of the Edenton Rotary Club at the Parish House. In the main, his brief talk at the luncheon was devoted to Rotary business and in meeting the individual mem bers and various committee chairmen of the Club who were at a club assembly meeting later in the day. At the Rotary Club assembly held at the Edenton Restaurant, Dr. Spencer reviewed the work, of the Edenton Club and was| high in his praise of the many services performed in the com munity. Dr. Spencer not only boosted the morale of the Edenton Ro tary Club by his official visit but contributed a number of worthwhile suggestions to com-j mittee chairmen to assist them in fulfilling the motto of all Ro-j tarians, “Who Serves Best Pro-1 fits Most”. Governor Spencer has served! in Rotary for the past eleven years, having been a president of the Wilson Rotary Club and serving on its board of directors for a number of years. He is a practicing obstetrician in a partnership which operates the Wilson Clinic in Wilson. He is a graduate of John-Hopkins Uni versity and has been active in the civic life of his city for the past decade winning the Jaycees DSA award in 1955. Before the District Governor’s departure from the club assem bly meeting, he reminded mem bers of the fourth object of Ro tary —The advancement of inter national understanding, good will and peace through a world fel lowship of business and profes sional men interested in the ideal of service. A chest X-ray will be given to anyone wishing it along with the examination of the five areas of the body where cancer is most easily found and cured. There are no limitations as to sex, race, physical or economic status at the center. However, women should be 35 or more; men should be 40 or over unless referred by a doctor, or unless one of the “Seven Danger Sig nals” or “symptoms” are pres ent. Only 30 people can be seen at the Center each month due to limited facilities, so it is sug gested that anyone who wishes to be assured of an appoint ment should write the Cancer Center, Health Department, Eliz abeth City, N.
