PAGE EIGHT —CTCTIOIT TWO SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON i Cont'd. from Page 6—Section 2 jhonor. It is warmer and indi cates . more involvement. It ap pears nowhere in the command ments of Moses, but it occurs pver and over again in the gos pel of Jesus. A person whose life enshrines godlike love has ho quarrel with godly law. Godlike love helps us better understand the vast realm bf human need and sorrow. We achieve the distinction of being called a neighbor when we do something voluntarily to befriend someone in trouble or distress. It was not the man who fell among thieves who was called the neighbor, but the Samaritan who helped him. Two other men —a priest and a Levite—had had the same opportunity to earn the distinction, but they did not respond with godlike love to relieve the distress of the stranger. The word “neighbor” had a broad meaning for Jesus. Thus, following his example, we rea lize that we do not choose those i whom we will help. Instead, I compassion overflows our hearts j and we bless all persons alike, j Godlike love regards ethical demands like the Ten Command-1 ments as a starting point rather j than the main goal. As we look back on the les- j sons that started with the Ten I Commandments, and as we re-1, new our appreciation of Jesus’i enlargement of these timeless/ ethical demands, we can settle] at last cn some greater goals, j If we will climb the steep as-j cent from where we can look out upon a world more needy | than we have ever imagined, we] can embrace and seek to im-, plement the greatest command- 1 ments ever given to men: "You. shall love the Lord your God I with all your heart, and with! all your soul, and with all your mind . . - And . . . You shall love your neighbor as your self.” (These comments are based or. outlines of the International Sun day School Lessons, copyrighle by the International Council o.' Religious Education, and used oy oerm'«sion). BLOODSHED BOXSGQRE OH H.C. HIGHWAYS - | Raleigh The Motor Vehicles Department’s summary of traffic deaths through 10 A.
