Bunch of the Rocky Hock section; a brqther, Raymond C- Buneh of Rocky Hock and two sisters, Mrs; Otis Chappell of Holly’s Wharf and Mrs. Ella Nixon of Edenton. He was a veteran of World War II and member of the Rocky Hock Baptist Church ’ where a funeral service was held 'Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The pastor the Rev. Thurman W. Allred, officiated, assisted by the Rev. J. Leonard Gerrald, pastor of Sandy Cross Baptist i Church. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. i Edenton Police Make 50 Arrests In April Chief of Police Leo LaVoie re ports that during April police made a total of 50 arrests, of whom 48 were found guilty as charged. Miscellaneous traffic arrests headed the list with 17, followed by 15 arrested for be ing drunk. Those arrested included 23 white males, three white fe males, 20 colored males and four colored females. i Fines amounted to $232.50 and (costs $503-70, or a total of $736.20, of which $186.60 was turned over to the town in way |of officers’ fees. I Activities during the month | included 69 calls answered and ' investigated, five accidents in | vestigated, seven funerals work ed, 24 courtesies extended, 18 doors found unlocked, two fire calls answered, 1,029 traffic ci tations issued, 11 lights reported out and 11 house checks. The police made 1,029 radio calls and were on the air one hour, 19 1 minutes and five seconds. STATIONED IN ENGLAND Airman First Class Larry E. Harris of Edenton has arrived at RAF Station. Burderop, Eng land for duty with a United , States Air Forces in Europe unit. I Airman Harris, a United States Air Force dietitian, was as signed to Burderop following an assignment at Fairchild AFB, , Washington. I The airman, who is married to the former Cora Rae Crum mey of 117 Morris Circle, Eden ton attended John A. Holmes High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Harris, 104 East Church Street. Yates re ports that Edenton firemen an swered nine calls during April, five of which were in Edenton and four out of town. For the Edentoh fires the fire men were out four hours and 30 minutes and out of town six hours and 15 minutes. They were on the air 45 seconds in town and 40 seconds out of town. Hose laid in Edenton was 1,- 000 feet and 750 feet out of town. Ladders were r-.sev. 22 feet in town and none out of town. For the Edenton fires 65 vol unteer firemen responded and 80 out of town. Property in volved in town was estimated at $13,100 and $8,500 out of town. Damage in town was estimated at $5,000 and none out of town. Insurance in town was $9,000 and none out of town. Two fire drills were held during the month and two still alarms, one in Edenton and one out of town. There was one false alarm at Macedonia Church and three rescue calls with three men on duty 83 hours. CDMC MEETS The May meeting of the CDMC was held B'riday night, May 11, at the home of Mrs. Marie White. There were nine members present. A reading was given from the first chap ter of the Book of Job. Group prayer was opened by Mrs. A. L. Carl ton Privott of Route 1, Eden ton, is serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, a unit which took part in Exer cise Quick Kick, a joint train* ing operation held May 7-10, at Camp Lejeune, N- C. More than 40,000 men, 370 air craft and 70 ships ot the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps took part in the exercise, scheduled by the U. S. Atlantic Command. The exercise featured a full ! scale, amphibious assault on Ons low Beach at Camp Lejeune, backed up by airborne troops and close air support from off shore.
