PAGE TWO egg Rocky Hock Orioles Extend Winning Streak To 11 Games The Rocky Hock C'rioles play ed only one game last week, but won it, extending their winning streak to 11 games and increas ing their lead in the Roanoke- Chowan League even further. The Orioles’ record stood at 11-1 early this week, giving them a 5% game lead in the league. They knocked Windsor out of second place Wednesday night of last week with a 6-4 victory. Rocky Hock met Creswell on Wednesday night in a Fourth of July game, and Friday night they return the visit and play on Hicks Field in Edenton. Sun day afternoon they go to Cole rain, and in turn play host to the Bertie County boys next Wednesday night. Wednesday night of last week the Orioles went to Windsor with part of their club, but managed to win their eleventh SOIL CONSERVATION NEWS By G. SAMUEL COX, Work Unit Conservationist Farm Plans Eugene Jordan of Tyner is de veloping a conservation farm plan on his farm in the Pollock Swamp Watershed. Topographic survey has been completed on the cultivatable land and from this a drag-line open ditch sys tem of drainage has been plan ned, which will be installed as soon as the main channel of Pollock Swamp is constructed. Mr. Jordan plans to use a two year corn and soybean rotation. He also plans some tree plant ing, woodland thinning and woodland weeding. This farm as well as many others in the Greenhall area will receive con siderable benefit from the Pol lock Swamp Watershed Project Burnt Mill Creek If you had gone out in the Yeopim section this past Satur day you would have seen the work that has just been dont to Burnt Mill Creek paying off There was little or no flooding in the watershed as a result of the main and laterals being cleaned out and reconstructed last year. Over in the Pollock Swamp Watershed there was considerable flooding due to in sufficient outlets. It was a close game until the fifth, with Rocky Hock leading 1-0 at that stage. The lOrioles exploded at that point for five runs to put away the contest despite two Windsor runs in tht sixth and eighth innings. First Aid Courses Soil Conservation personnel in Chowan and adjoining counties have recently completed the basic and advanced courses in first aid. These courses, which include 2M> hours of instruc tion each week for 10 weeks, were taught by Mr. Bill Man ning and Mr. James Lyles, American Red Cross First Aid ■ nstructors, from the Washington bounty Chapter.
