L- Gilchrist and family left Edenton Saturday to make their home at Washington, N- C. Dr. Gilchrist has been a vet erinarian in Edenton for 13 years and in Washington he will be connected with animal disease control in the U- S. Department of Agriculture. ATTENDING INSTITUTE David E. Wilson, Southamp ton Training School, is partici- j pating in the National Science I Foundation Institute for High! School chemistry teachers at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. Civil Defense Director Murray Ashley was authorized to pur chase an air conditioner unit for his office on the basis of match ing funds. The local cost for this unit is estimated to be about S7O. The Commissioners also agreed to pay the expenses for Mrs. Lena Leary and Sheriff Earl Goodwin to attend conventions. Mrs. Leary will attend the State Association of Clerks of Court at Morehead City July 4-8. Mr. Goodwin will attend the State Sheriff’s Association at Ashe ville August 2-4. Further consideration was giv en to the appointment of mem bers to the Joint Town and County Planning Board, and Chairman W. E. Bond stated a meeting of the group will be held at the Edenton Restaurant Tuesday, July 10. RED MEN MEETING Chowan Tribe No. 12, Improv ed Order of Red Men, will meet Monday night, July 9, at 8 o’clock. New officers are sched uled to be installed, so that Obed Lee, retiring sachem, urges an exceptionally large attendance. LIONS MEET MONDAY Edenton’s Lions Club will meet Monday night, July 9 at 7 o’clock at the Edenton Rastaurant. The new president, Herbert Hollo well, Jr., urges a 100 per cent attendance. Leroy Spivey Hurt In Auto Accident Leroy Spivey of Edenton was injured about the face Saturday morning when the car in which he was riding was involved' in an accident at the corner of West Queen and South Mosley Streets. Spivey’s father, E. L- Spivey, was the driver of the car which was struck while going west on Queen Street, by a car being driven by Casper Overton of Edenton. Overton failed to stop while going north on Mosley Street and entered the intersec tion, striking the left front of Spivey’s car. Both automobiles left the road before stopping. \ It was the second such acci dent to occur at the corner with in the past three weeks. Mrs. Cecil W. Fry was struck almost identically by Charlie Copeland of Tyner when Copeland failed to yield the right of way coming south on Mosley Street just two weeks before Saturday’s collision. Police estimated damages to Spivey’s 1952 Ford at S4OO while Overton’s 1954 Plymouth sus tained about $250 damage. Le roy Spivey had several stitches taken in hia bottom lip and suf fered a chipped tooth. Marvin A. Bond Wins Scholarship MafVin Andrew Bond, son of Dr. and Mrs. George Bond of Baltimore, Md., and grandson of Mrs. E. W. Bond, has been awarded a scholarship from Mc- Donough Military prep School in the amount of SI,BOO per year. This is one of the top military prep schools in the United States. Marvin was 12 years old when he took the examination and was in the seventh grade.
