Each spring 500 day [ old chicks are placed with ten i 4-H Club boys or girls, 50 chicks ! each, who agree to turn in sev !en each to be sold with the j money to be used to purchase j additional chicks for the follow | ing spring. The pullet chain is i sponsored by the Sear-Roebuck i Foundation which bought the first 500 chicks and give cash prizes each year to the boys or girls with pullet chain chicks during the current year. Four-H boys receiving chicks this spring were: Larry Green, Wilbert Harris, Stanley Little john, Willie Downing and James Hassell in the Yeopim area; Calvin Robinson, Warren Grove community, and Paul Fleming, Calvin Coston and Walter Twine, Jr., in the Center Hill communi ty. Most of the pullets have begun to lay. Others should be gin laying in another week. The public is invited to at tend this show and sale. The pullets will be judged and auc tioned off by W. G- Andrews, Extension poultry specialist from jN. C. State College in Raleigh. Judging will begin at 2 P. M., and the -sale will begin at 2:30. Everyone is invited to bid on and buy these pulletfe. It is a good chance for buying replace ments for small family-size flocks and a wonderful opportunity to support a very worthwhile 4-H ] Club activity. THE CHOWAN HERALD.
