Scribe called the roll and read
the minutes. The collection was
taken. We had the flag cere
mony with Troop No. 2 and sang
some songs. We collected more
berries, leaves and acorns for
our flower arrangements.. We
.picked the cardinal for our Troop
Crest. We were served refresh
ments and the meetihg was dis
missed. We met again on Octo
ber 22, 1962. The Scribe called
the roll and read the minutes.
The collection was taken. We
started working on our dried
flower arrangements. We were
served refreshments and the
meeting was dismissed.

Edenton’s Girl Scout Troop No.
2 met Monday, October 22, 1962
at the Parish House. First we
had the flag ceremony. Then
the president called the meeting
to order. The secretary called
the roll and read the minutes.
Then we learned how to make
a bed. Ginna Jones tried first,
Dabney Forehand tried second,
Crystal Page tried third and
Gray Kirtley tried last. We
then played a game. After that
we were served refreshments
by Dabney Forehand and Shelia
Small. Then we went home.

creamed potatoes, giblet gravy,
garden peas, school baked rolls,
pineapple, cranberry sauce, milk,
butter.
Thursday: Meat balls and spa

baked rolls, blackeye peas, pears,
butter.
Friday: Macaroni and cheese,
turnip greens, buttered corn,

The Town Council met this day
in regular session at 7:30 P- M-,
at the town office.
Members present: Mayor John
A. Mitchener, Jr., J. E. Bufflap,
George A. Byrum, Luther C.
Parks, C- A. ihillips, R. Elton
Forehand and R. D. Dixon, Jr.
Mayor Mitchener called the
meeting to order and gave the
invocation.
Mayor Mitchener praised Chief
LaVoie for the work of the Po
lice Department during the re
| cent Democratic rally. He also
directed the chief to write the
commanding officer of National
I Guard unit expressing his ap-
E 1 reciation for the work of mem
ers of the .local unit during the
I same rally.

Democratic rally.
Thomas C. Byrum, Jr., appear
ed with W. P. Jones to express
his concern over the develop
ment of industry at the NAAS.
He asked the Council to request
L. L- Lester to meet with the
Industrial Committee of the
Chamber of Commerce, Town
Council, and E. & W. Board to
inform them of his plans for the
development of the United States
Lumber Company.
The Council requested the
Mayor to write L. L- Lester a
letter stating that United Prop
erties, Inc., had until November
15th, 1962. to complete the access
road to the sewage disposal
plant site, and if it was not pass
able to vehicular traffic by that
date the agreement between
United Properties, Inc., and the
Town of Edenton would be null
and void. Ihe letter is to also
state that if suitable progress
had not been made on this work
by November 1,1962, the agree
ment would be declared null
and void on the latter dale.
John Graham appeared on be
half of Joe Crisanti. He re
quested that the lease for the
54.7 acres be increased in length.
The Council increased the lease
to 3 years with option to renew
for 3 additional years. Council
man Forehand was directed to
meet with -Mr. Crisanti and his
attorney to work out a suitable
agreement for the transfer of the
railroad tracks to ,N. S. Railroad.
Motion was made by C. A.
Phillips, seconded by Luther C.
Parks, and duly carried that
Mayor Mitchener be authorized
to execute the deed between the
Town of Edenton and V.E.P. Co.,
for a 50 foot wide easement to
extend E. Freemason St.
Motion was made by George
A. Byrum, seconded by C. A.
Phillips and duly carried that
the following ordinance be
adopted:
Ordinance To Protect The Public
Interest And Safety:
Whereas, picketing disturbances
on the public streets of Edenton
have resulted in injury to the
person of the Edenton Chief of
Police and danger of bodily
harm and monetary loss to the
general public exists, but at the
same time recognizing the rights
of any person or group of per
sons to peacefully picket for law
ful purposes, it shall now, there
fore, be unlawful for any per
| son or group of persons whatso
ever to picket any residence or
place of business within the mu
nicipal limits of the incorporated
Town of' Edenton, unless 24
hour notice of the proposed in
tent to picket has been given the
Town Council of Edenton in
writing through the Town Clerk’s
office.
A permit to organize a picket line
must be. obtained from the Town
Clerk. Said permit is to he ob
tained 24 hours in advance of
the beginning date of the pro
posed picketing. Fee for such
permit is hereby set at the rate
of SIO.OO per day for each day
the picketing exists from the
beginning date to the termina
tion date inclusive, payable in
advance to the Collector of the
Town of Edenton.
Violation of this ordinance will
be punishable by imprisonment
not to exceed 30 days or fine
not more than $200.00. in the
discretion of the Court. Each
day picketing continues without
the required permit shall con
stitute a separate offense by
each person engaged therein.
The effective date of this ordin
ance is October 11, 1962.
