District Sanitarian Emphasizes
Ordinance For Trailer Parking
K. J. Eyer, sanitarian for the
District Health Department, calls
attention to the trailer par’, ing
ordinance which was adopted in
1957.
“Sanitation, as related to the
operation of trailer parking,”
says Mr. Eyer, “requires more
than a clean, comfortable and at
tractive mobile home. It in
volves a safe water supply, ap
proved disposal of sewage, trash
and garbage disposal, adequate
lighting, as well as insect and
rodent control. There is a defi
nite need for general guidance
in the planning and operation of
trailer courts, so the construc
tion, operation and maintenance
of these areas will comply with
health regulations, thus being.
satisfactory to individuals using
courts, the court owners, and the
residents of adjacent areas.
“Due to the anticipated influx
of military and civilian person
nel at Naval Air Facility, Har
vey's Point, Hertford, the Dis
trict Board of Health adopted a
trailer parking ordinance in

On European Tour
It is announced by E. R. Fos
ter, executive director, that the
17-day U- S. Foresters Tour of
Europe has exceeded the expec
tation of every member of the
40 man group. Sponsored by
| the Connecticut River Watershed
j Council of Greenfield, Mass., this
is the first large contingent of
foresters to pay a visit to Europe
since 1935. Visits were made to
Germany, Austria, Switzerland
and Sweden.
Examples of multi purpose
forestry methods, research and
watershed management along
with large scale pulp and lum
ber operations were on the itin
erary. Conceived as an example
of people to people contact with
European foresters, Foster said
I the association, fellowship and
j cooperation the group received
I from federal state, industry and
j local foresters was a good ex
ample of “Common Market” ex
! change.
j Arrangements were made with
: members of the German Fores- j
try Association for a return tour
visit in 1963 of the eastern sea
board of U. S. by members of
! this organization,
i Foster said the council would
! continue to sponsor these edu
cational trips to see Europe’s
fine forests and to afford oth
ers the opportunity to meet Eu
ropean officials.
The hotel and other tourist
I arrangements were handled by
1 the Primus Travel Organisation,
Frankfurt.
Among those U. S. foresters
on the tour was James E. Hobbs,
! consultant forester of Edenton.
The forester tour left Frank
' furt on October 20 by Lufthansa

Shortens Meal Preparation
Time
“Think how much time I can
save in meal preparation,” com
mented a club member in Stokes
County. She was referring to a
demonstration on the use of the
pressure cooker.
Mrs. Maxine Tingle, home eco

was impressed by the speed of
cooking, plus the tenderness and
the flavor of the piece of meat.
Home Beautification
“Mrs. J. A. Morris of Wash
ington County has just started
making plans on paper to land
scape her yard,” reports Mrs.
Frances Darden, home economics

Summer Damage Repaired
August is probably the most
dangerous month of the, year nu
trition wise. There is plenty of
' food but country people are too
busy to cook and eat and city
1 people are too much off sched
ule while vacationing ’to get a
proper diet.
Miss Isabelle Buckley, home
[ economics agent. in Rockingham
■ County, says illness can result
. from improper diet. A good
i way to repair the damage is to
eat vegetables, meat and drink
; plenty of milk, • Ahdc a lot of
