Ber muda is a hybrid bermuda and produces, more pounds of- for l age and more days of grazing per year than any 'other known plairt available today. It is sim ilur to common f bermuda in i 1 appearance but is larger, more vigorous and more, productive. I Land toe sandy to produce hard ly anything else will produce ji coastal, however, it does well on most- soils in our area if it isn’t » too wet. The quality of the hay | is excellent. Wilbert Hare and Edgar Hollowell established a few acres of coastal about three | or four years ago and like it so well they continue to expand their acreage each year. Coast al Bermuda grass does most of its growing in the hot summer months when most of the other! pastures are not doing so well. It is'hot a plant to replace the other pasture plants but to sup plement them for more year around grazing. It is also the best .pasture plant known for sandy, land. Continued from Page 1, Section 1 ‘i of all dogs against rabies; (2) ’1 Elimination of stray dogs by [county dog wardens in coopera tion with enforcement officers; ■ (3) Information to the public I about rabies and rabies control; I • (4) Wildlife control when neces- I ' sary.” In pointing up the import- I ance of keeping rabies out of I • the community, Dr. Grant gave I 1 facts about the disease. She I - said* “Rabies or hydrophobia is a dangerous disease of man and I , animals. It is transmitted I > through the bite of a ‘mad’ ani- I mal. The saliva of an animal I with rabies contains the virus I which causes the disease. When j 1 the skin is broken by an animal I bite, the saliva enters the body. I i Rabies does not always develop I after the bite of a rabid animal, I 1 but when it does the disease is I ’ always fatal. Fortunately, there ■ is a treatment that will prevent ’ rabies when a person has been i bitten, if begun promptly. Our ■ best protection lies in eliminat ■ ing rabies and controlling the | ' spread of the disease. This • would eliminate the need for hu man treatment following animal I ; bites. “A good control program for , rabies:will mean that fewer peo i pie will be exposed to rabies by | animal bites, and in this way fewer people will have to take 1 ■ the Pasteur treatment. Control of rabies will prevent economic loss that comes when rabid ani mals bite livestock and wildlife 1 The control of rabies is up to each citizen. Every dog owner should have his own dog vac cinated against rabies.” . The Chowan County clinic will I be held Wednesdays, April 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Dr. L. A. Dees’ of ■ fice on the Edenton-Hertford s highway. The clinics will be ; I held from 1 to 5 P. M. THE CHOWJUT HEHALO. »™,.
