They were accompanied home by Martin Zimmerman, who spent the week-end as guest of his mother and stepfather. Visit In South Carolina Mr. and Mrs. John Foxwell spent the week-end in George town, S. C., as guests of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Foxwell. They were accompanied by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Edward Foxwell of Ports mouth. Visits Mother Mrs. Alice Belch and Claire spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Poe in Mt. Gilead. At Nags Head Mrs. Lynn Bond, Sr., and Mrs. Julia Bond are spending this week at Nags Head. Week-end In Dunn Mr. and M rs - Aubrey Hardison and daughter spent the week end with her parents in Dunn. Mrs. Hardison remained for a few days in order to attend the graduation of her sister, Pattie. Visit In Washington Mr. and Mrs. Keith Reeve and Mrs. Selby Harney spent Satur day in Washington, N. C. While there they visited Miss Lethe Warren. Washington Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Chester Stevens had as their guest last week her mother, Mrs. A. G. Pigott of Washington, D. C. At Nags Head Meeting Glenn Mabe is spending sev eral days this week in Nags Head attending a meeting of the Southern Pulp Wood National Conservation Association. Here From Greenville Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Barnhill had as their Sunday guests his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Barn hill of Greenville. o Attending World's Fair Dr. and Mrs. Ed Bond and Dr. and Mrs. L. P. Williams, Jr., will travel to Atlantic City, New Jersey, and to the World’s Fair at New York City this week. Guest of Daughter Mrs. J. N. Gibson of Gibson, N. C., spent last week with her daughter, Mrs. Charles Tysor. On Saturday Mrs. Tysor and Mrs. Gibson were guests at a shower at Methodist College in Fayetteville, given for Martha Tysor, bride-to-be. - Visit At Virginia Beach Mr. and Mrs. Charles Newcomb spent Friday in Virginia Beach visiting friends. Award Continued from Page 1. Section 1 for public service. The awards were presented by Governor Terry Sanford at a public subscription dinner held at Hotel Sir Walter which was attended by about 300 people. Mrs. Fletcher received the medal for literature in recog nition of her famed Carolina se ries, a succession of 12 novels which began in 1940 with Ra leigh’s Eden. Her latest novel is Rogue’s Harbor. Mrs. Fletcher’s novels have circled the world and have been translated into many languages. Through her novels she has helped to bring North Carolina history to life and this in turn has helped to inspire interest in the history of the state. She has also taken an active part in the preservation, restoration and beautification of monuments of North Carolina heritage. Since Mrs. Fletcher’s home, Bandon Plantation, was destroy ed by fire, she has been making her home with her sister, Mrs. L. A. Chenoweth at Belvidere. THE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTOW.
