Edenton Group Os Jfehovah Witnesses To, Attend School The Edenton congregation of : Jehovah’s Witnesses is sending '• 15 teachers and ministers to school for four days. Joseph R. ' Chdespoti, presiding minister, 'announces that local delegates will be among more than 10,000 ■ attending a district convention in; Richmond, Va., July 8-12. Codespoti said it will be held at Parker Field, home of the ■ Richmond baseball club of the International League. He said people from 16 states have reg istered to attend, but most of the delegates will come’from Vir ginia, North Carolina, Maryiwd and the District of Columbia. According to Codespoti, one of the aims of the convention is to help Christians to serve -their own communities as teachers of the Bible. He said the Eden ton congregation spends about 135 hours a month in free home Bible instruction here. The Richmond coriMention is one' of 37 conventions held in the United States this year. NORTH CAROLINA PEACH CROP FAR SHORT OF 1963 The North Carolina peach crop is estimated at 200,000 bushels, only 13 per cent as large as in 1963 when 1,500,000 bushels were produced. The late March freeze com pletely destroyed the crop in many orchards of the Sandhills area. Outside of the Sandhills area, freeze damage to the crop was not as severe and a few or chards will produce a • fair to good crop. The May drip was very light, but the maximum potential pro duction will not materialize be cause of a drastically curtailed spray program. This Is The Life B * DONALD R. THOMAS V ' Danger, A Waterfall Ahead There were two brother* who spent their time at the river. They loved to play follow the* leader in their boats. Their par ents warned- them notato go -too close to the waterfall. They were out boat-riding one Sunday afternoon, not paying too much attention to where they were headed. They went into the rapids that headed for the falls; The oldest said, “follow me and I’ll get you out.” A man stand ing on the bank yelled “you haven’t got a chance. Here grab this rope”. “I don’t need it,” yelled the oldest. He went on over -the falls. The youngest tried for shore but couldn’t get anywhere. He said, “Please, Qod, help me.” The man tossed him a rope and he was pulled to safety. God is standing on the bank 'and will toss you a rope. Which brother are you go ing to be? I don’t need it or please, God, help me. Don’t be like a piece of- wood that just drifts along. Find out where you are going. Memory Selection: “You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.” (Ephesians 2:19). Lesson Text: Ephesians 2:11-22; 4:1-16 Today the purpose of our study is to clarify in our own minds some of 'the beliefs, prac tices, and areas of common wit ness that we, as Christians, should share. The Letter to the Ephesians which serves as ithe basis of ouf study 'today was written at a time when there was separation and a great open hostility be tween the Gentiles and the Jews. Religion was enmeshed in rigid rituals and cannons which too many observed with what bor dered on fanaticism, and thus further served to erect -a wall be tween the sects. It was this background that prompted Paul to write what is considered one of the greatest of his Letters to the Church, for ■ its theme was Christian unity. The world is still a divided world . . . strife exists between man and man, between man and his God. But God has as his plan the healing of the breach, the bringing of harmony be tween man and man, between man "and God. All are to be united in Christ, and it is to be done through the church. The church is to proclaim to those who are at hand, and to those who. are far off, that the old war is over. The church is the body, Christ is the head, and all are one. There is no denying the fact that there will continue to be differences in the ecclesiastical ' systems. Each man will be ’ aware that there are some creeds 1 that he will not be able, in all 1 conscience and honesty, to ac cept. But a deep and ingrained • conviction will acknowledge the fact that it is not a credo that saves or dams an individual . . . it is God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ that saves, just as it is a lack of this faith that 1 leaves a man lost and groping. Fortunately for mankind, and the future of the world, God is ’ still acting savingly in Christ for the whole world. Divisions ! still exist in the- Christian ’ church, it is true, but they are i not existing as sharply as here i tofore. Presbyterians, Baptists, ■ Methodists, Roman Catholics — • whatever the denomination—are 1 working together with a greater ) understanding and tolerance than - ever before for the common i good. Being dependent on God, ■ they are also dependent upon ; each other, just as the members l -of a family are dependent upon ' each other. And, like the mem » bers in a well-ordered family, ; differences of opinion are ac cepted and respected. The com [ mon, over-riding goal takes pref ! erenee. The Christian soon learns that resident in God’s household re - quires the strictest discipline and commitment. Photographers love to find a scene like this. Flowing, water ... a background of trees ... a church spire in the distance . . . \ these always make an outstanding picture. Wherever we travel we see Christian churches in harmonious set tings, and there’s a tendency to think of them as ‘‘part of the scenery.” i But what an important part they are! Every one is a House of God, dedicated to His service. Every one is a community focal point, helping in a thousand ways to broaden and beautify the lives of its members. And ! every one is a vital link in the shining chain of Christian belief that* t stretches around the world.
