Last week I, viewed an hour’s
program on TV presenting a last
minute bid for votes by Richard
son Preyer; and later, on in the
evening I viewed another bid toy
Dan Moore. A lot of political
pyrotechnics were hurled at the
TV viewers, to the point where
the whole business became con
fusing—at least to me. The next
< day, with the idea of using some
of this political ammunition that
had bombarded me, to confuse
and confound some of my friends,
I tried to recall some of the
many things that were said; but
for the life of me I drew a
blank. I could recall or remem
ber but very little I had heard.
The moral there is that most
political speeches are futile and
. wasted effort. The candidates
underestimate the intelligence
of the average voter, who under
stands about as much of the is
sues as the candidates them
selves. When will candidates for
public office learn that it is
only necessary to present their
views, briefly and concisely, just
ONE TIME. And leave the out
come to the good judgment and
fairness of the voter.
Speaking about the topless
bathing suit, around which so |
much controversy is raging: re-1
member what our grandmothers,'
or our mothers for that matter,-
wore on the beaches in their
day? Compare their swimsuits
to what the ladies wear on the
beaches and in the pools today,
and I think you will agree with
me that swimsuit styles are
heading in a very definite direc- i
Ition. The trend is obvious to
anyone who has eyes to see and
the wit to interpret what he sees.

THE CHOWAN HERALD
tended for man to experience
some heat in the summer
months. A person needs to
sweat, he needs to be browned
by the sun and not by a syn
thetic tan out of a .bottle. Hon
est summer perspiration on an
honest brow is good for the soul
and a purger of the system. But
maybe I am biased and preju
diced and my antipathy for air
conditioning strictly a personal
matter, _ and not to be construed
as criticism or coercion. If you
like it—you like it and I grant
you your right of Choice and the
exercise of free will. But you
must also grant the same privi
lege to me. I don’t like air con
ditioning, particularly where em
ployed by the fanatical and rabid
devotees of this devil’s invention,
and by those who can’t distin
guish between air conditioning
and refrigeration.
